I told her when we left home today that it was going to happen. She has been so patient the last two years waiting on a "good" buck. We get to a road going into the food plot we planned to hunt and I saw a 6 point chasing a doe. He ran her out of the field and I told her to wait and he would run the doe back. Sure enough he did but this time a big 8 was following. We immedietly knew this one was "the one" and started trying to get her to a good shooting spot. Over the next 35 minutes we belly crawled about 25 yards until we got a clear lane to shoot. The whole time he kept checking us out but just didn't know what we were and wasn't willing to leave the doe to investigate. Several times I could hear her breathing and had to make her take deep breaths, I could tell buck fever had set in. Finally I sat on my butt and let her use my shoulder as a prop for the 308 VTR. As long as I live I'll never forget the calmness in her voice when she said "I'm on him, I can make the shot". Next thing I saw was that death lunge. He ran across the field and into the timber. The longest walk I've ever made was across that 2 acre food plot. Got to the edge and all I could see was horns sticking up out of those beautiful hardwoods. The celebration started from there. I could have killed a 170 with a slingshot today and not been any happier.
