It is, I think! A white cheeked pintail. Must be from the hurricane?

I think definitely a white cheek pintail. We shot a ton of them in Argentina have one on my wall. You need DR2 or the waterfowler to weigh in on this they are the experts on south american waterfowl. Where was it killed?

Do tell...
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

good friend killed it this past weekend in fla, on public land at that. he texted me a pic of it, and asked me... he will be over here at the camp in the next week, so i'll try to get more details if ya'll want em.

after 2 days of mulling it over and discussing with some other rednecks we came up with widgeon/pintail cross....  i decided there were people way more up on this than myself or any of my buddies so that's when i looked here for answers. that's the only picture i have right now.

next question: how in the hell does a south american duck, end up in north america? is it a tammy? was it drunk? or just plain ole lost?

White-cheeked pintails are also known as Bahama pintails. They are found in Cuba, and from the name, I would guess in the Bahamas as well. That being the case, it is not out of the realm of reason that one might stray to Florida.

Pretty cool. Wiki has some info on them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-cheeked_Pintail
The White-cheeked Pintail (Anas bahamensis), also known as the Bahama Pintail or Summer Duck,[2] is a species of dabbling duck. It was first described by Linnaeus in his Systema naturae in 1758 under its current scientific name.

Distribution and habitat
It is found in the Caribbean, South America, and the Galápagos Islands.[4] It occurs on waters with some salinity, such as brackish lakes, estuaries and mangrove swamps.[4] There are three subspecies:

A. b. bahamensis - Lesser Bahama Pintail[2] - in the Caribbean, and a vagrant to southern Florida
A. b. rubirostris - Greater Bahama Pintail[2] - in South America; it may be partly migratory, breeding in Argentina and wintering further north.[4]
A. b. galapagensis - Galapagos Pintail[2] - in the Galapagos
