My 12 year old daughter has asked for a compound bow for Christmas. I am not a bow hunter and would appreciate any recommendations on a good starter youth bow that is new or used and economical till I see her level of interest in shooting? Thanks

My sons both have a Mission Menace they're made by Matthews I believe but the model was replaced by a bow they call the "craze", I don't know that much about it but to be effective you have to have a bow that fits and because kids are constantly growing, for kids, the bow should have a lot of adjustment, I think there are a couple of companies that make kids bows that fit this need, I believe Diamond also makes a bow like this, go to a pro shop they should be able to help, my kids' bows adjust (I think) from something like 18-30 inches draw length and from 18-50 pound pull weight. My oldest hasn't taken too it but my youngest is starting to really get interested. His bow (I think) is set on about 44 pounds, shooting about 209 fps with victory arrows, that's as fast as the first full size bow I had as an adult, these new bows for kids are effective, one of his buddies from school kills several deer every year with a bow, it's also something you can do to spend time with them, good luck, hope thus helps

I was gonna buy my boy a craze but I decided I didn't wanna put 600 in a bow having it all set up so I went and bought the vortex by Barnett. 150 bucks starting out. It goes from 15-45lbs i got it setup and have less than 300 in it.

I bought my son the Mission craze. 18-30" draw length and 15 - 80lbs draw weight adjustment. Set up with a Truglo sight whisker biscuit and 4 arrows was 399$. Did not buy a quiver as he wanted a shoulder quiver and I had one.

Diamond makes a great adjustable bow for both poundage and draw length for youth. go see Roger up at Bass Pro in Pearl

If she is going to continue to hunt, you want to get a bow that she can grow into. You don't want to buy a bow and then in 2-4 years have to buy another one. The craze is a bow that they built for this reason, I would go with that.

I appreciate all the feedback. I have done some reading up on the Craze bow and call several bow shops. I will probably end up going with the Craze for the adjust-ability as she grows.

Another option is the Bear Apprentice 2. It gets good reviews. 15"-27" draw length and 20-60lb. $279 at Basspro.
