Ask DS: Newly Weds Foods, Horn Lake

Postby RNAIL » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:49 am

Anyone work there or know someone that does, trying to get some Flavaroma #5 Barbeque Seasoning. Real good dry rub that I put on everything. This stuff is hard to find. If I could find a vendor I could buy a case and hold me and my buddies over for a while.

If it's the same #5 I use I get it at Pretti Bros on South Third. Real sketchy part of town, but it's a legit operation run by some Italians. It's at Third and Peeples, park around back and use the back door...it's for the taxpayers. They will het you whatever you need if it's the same stuff. While your there grab a few ribeyes from Frankie and thank me later.

+1
Worth your time to check them out. Spend a few days up there every year with bigmuddy and one of the highlights of the trip is going to Pretti Bros.

Let me correct myself. The #5 rub I use is made by reichert spice company. Excellent rub but made in IL. Good option if you want to change it up.

Remember the Hoover Sausce craze,,,this Flavorama#5 is a dry rub (IMHO) that is right up there with Hoover. You can put it on just about anything to enhance flavor, 2x4's included, its that good.

...still on the hoover juice bandwagon. what's the "rub" on the rub?? what's the major ingredient...profile-wise - smokey, like sure shot sid's? bbq seasonings? garlic/herb type?

..sounds good, just trying to get an idea for the flavor

fROM THE PACKAGE:
Sugar, Salt Paprika, glumate, chili pepper, onion powder, spices, garlic powder, spice extractives, natural smoke flavor, polysorbate 80.

Dont know the mix ratios, but trial and error would get you there, spicy smoke with a touch on the sweet side. is my take on it.

I have had the best luck finding it in locally owned grocery stores, not the chain types, for instance Grocery Basket in Grenada carries it.
