Band reporting..............
What is the deal?
I called in the info for a eagle head my son shot in Manitoba last week. Usually they are very prompt on emailing info back. I got online to get the data or verify that they had the correct information.
Well they had the data we reported (date, location, name, band number), the reply said it could take up to a few MONTHS to get the bird info to us.
Budget cutbacks i guess.
Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Band reporting..............
It's just that time of the year......lotta reports coming-in.
It wouldn't surprise me if there was a sharp increase in reporting with this latest weather system we ran from, Thursday. NoDak is getting hammered with snow and temps are dropping - i.e. birds are moving en mass.
I imagine it just takes some time to process all the reports and make certificates available for e-mailing.
They installed a new system last year that is supposed to speed the process up a bit - less paper. Changes take time.
Congrats on the band!

Could be that it is a newly banded bird. Each year it takes a little time to acquire and input the banding data from birds banded that year.novacaine wrote:What is the deal?

Re: Band reporting..............
i'm actually still waiting on info and papers on a bird i shot in 2007 or 08 (i forget now) if it makes you feel any better.
from what i understand, the banders themselves have something to do with it as far as getting info back.
i've submitted 3 times and made a few calls...........and, that's about as far as i'm willing to take it

I guess i don't feel so slighted then.
The last one i got in 2009 came back fast so i just assume all were that fast.
We will pull past the drive thru window and wait in the parking lot then.

Re: Band reporting..............
The last couple my hunting buddies and I have killed were inputted on the online website(www.reportband.gov/) and instantly told of banding info. The certificate was in the mail within a week or so...?

I have had same results. I have been fortunate enough to kill banded birds the last two years and have had no issue getting the info. First year they sent me paper certificate. Last year they told me they went to email.

Results for the blue goose my son shot in Manitoba:
Banded 8/17/1997- Nanavut, Canada
Age of Bird:Was too young to fly when banded in 1997
Thats pretty awesome that the bird was almost as old as the ute that shot it!

the same thing happened to me. several of the geese I killed, I get results back in a week or two. I am still waiting on the info from a banded mallard I shot 6 or 7 years ago. I report it once a year just to make sure they still have my info.
