Nice mess of crappie! A lot of people stop fishing for them after the spawn and start fishing for bass and bream. Crappie can be caught year round if you know where to find them. I'll take a crappie over all other fresh water fish any ol day of the week. That is some fine eatin. Congrat on that nice catch.

I bet you caught them in around 4' of water in the backwater areas on jigs. (am I close???) My grandfathers' nextdoor neighbor caught 25 yesterday most resembling the bottom left fish...all were caught in 4' on jigs in the backwater....not saying which lake it was in though....but it wasn't the closest one. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I caught some NICE slabs in arkabutla all were between 15-16" and half were males half were females. The "spawn" happened in 1 day and it was OVER! I love feeling that THUMP when a crappie hits a jig...nothing like it.
