Youth hunt pics... Post them up
It all came together for Dean Davis and his 7yr old boy Walker, Saturday afternoon with only minutes of camera light left. Had them positioned in a big oak tree up in a treehouse on the edge of a food plot looking about 70yrds to the right and left with one of Dean's older boys (Dyllan) running the camera. The afternoon was slow, guessing with the hot weather and moon. Around 6pm I shot them a text to see if any deer had shown up in the field and Dean said nothing but a few squirrels running around in the hardwoods behind them. Told me Walker was getting anxious and bored but was hanging in there. About 20 min later 3 does stepped out at 60yrds and start feeding but they are wanting a buck kill for their TV show. Walker has never shot a deer so Dean had him practice aiming at the does and adjusting the scope. As camera light was fading, this wide, big body 10pt steps out down with the does and begins making a scrape. Dean asked Dyllan how much camera light was left and Dyllan tells him not much, he can barely get any footage of deer. Dean grabs the camera, changes up the settings, and gets it to collect just enough light to capture a quick shot on film, and hands it back to Dyllan. After a couple more adjustments of the scope, Walker tells Dean he has it on him and Dyllan gives them the go ahead. Walker squeezes off his 7mm-08 and the deer hunches up and hits the hardwoods full sprint. 40yrds into the woods they found him piled up. They all 3 were more than excited. Walker's (7yrs old) 1st hunt, 1st time to shoot at a deer, smokes this 20" 10pt that we guessed to push 220lbs on the scale. This boy is hooked now.
If any of y'all tune in to Antler Insanity on the Sportsman Channel, this hunt will be on next years episodes. Dean Davis and Kenneth Lancaster host this new show and are back at it again together, traveling the US hunting. You may remember them from the old Primos days. Good to see some MS boys representing our state. The show started back in the summer and has been a good one to watch.
Great day to be part of a kid's first kill on youth weekend! Dean has continued to carry on his tradition of getting his boys involved early in hunting and handling the pressure of being in front of a camera. It was good to see in the original post all the guys taking youth hunting this weekend. That's what it is all about

that's a heck of a way to start!
thanks to tedl10, i took Logan, a boy i knew growing up and he got his first deer. a big ole 135lb nanny. I don't have kids, but i can imagine it being something special seeing them get their first one. i had just as much fun as he did.

this is the only pic i got on my phone but the youngsters put down a bunch!

My ten year old first buck, 20 inch spread with 25" main beam. Hopefully he want get burned out. 7mm 08 reduced load out of CVA scout. 180 yards in a peanut field. This little rifle is really accurate. I havent gun hunted since 1989 so this is really fun watching my son get into it.

Killed Sunday morning by one of my drivers son.
Killed in Lula, Ms. Tipped the scale at 275. They hadnt been in the stand 8 minutes and he walked out. Couldnt be more happy for a father and son.
