New Camp Questions
I am in a new camp that has formed over the past month or so, and we are in need of some rules. I am not looking to copy any, I just need some ideas of how things are worded and presented. If anyone can or would email me your rules to tjwilliams532@bellsouth.net, I would appreciate it.
I have looked at Gum Branch, so something other than that.
Thanks.

Re: New Camp Questions
Two issues that you definitely need to address in the rules:
1.) Required work days or required work hours. A requirement of membership is that you need to do your share of work to maintian the property. If not, you will have members who you will not see all year and then they show up on opening day ready to hunt. They expect all the plots to be planted, all the roads to be cleared and all the stands to be in good shape; and they expect everyone else to do the work.
2.) Guest policy. Need a formal guest policy or else you will have a member bringing their buddy every time they hunt.
Have seen those two issues in every club I have been a member of.

Re: New Camp Questions
I have seen all kinds of guest policies and my favorite is that you can only bring each guess like 3 days a year. That way you don't have someone bringing the same person all year, but can bring a buddy or two up to three days.

Re: New Camp Questions
Never set up a deer camp but I have been guest to a bunch...
1: The best rule I have seen is set the member a # (i.e. 2 or 3) if bucks they can kill on their membership. If they bring a guest the guests kill comes off of the members number. It will make the membership police itself. It will also make the guest feel like it better be a good deer before they take a shot.
2: Another that I liked is that the 2nd buck taken had the be larger than the first until the last week of the season if the member had a buck left to kill. But that was on a property that was managed for trophy deer and the members didn't mind that rule.
3: Another club that had a bad doe problem made a rule that the membership had to have 4 does killed (by member or guests of member) before a guest could kill a buck the rule #1 applied after that.
YOu kinda have to know what kind of dder you have and what kind of deer you want when rules are set.

Making rules are the easy part. Making everyone follow the rules is the hard part!

Re: New Camp Questions
Find members you don't have to police. Set a number of bucks at 1 or 2 per membership and make sure folks don't split memberships. Ex if someone brings same guest all the time usually guest has paid half the dues
If its 1 buck or 2 they usually won't shoot small ones

Re: New Camp Questions
Thanks for all of the posts. I think we have the guest part figured out. Member can bring 1 guest up to 6 times. If the guest kills anything, it counts towards members quotas. There are only 9 of us and we all have kids so this camp was truly formed so kids could kill stuff. The main question I should have asked about is stands. All stands that are placed on food plots are camp stands and must be able to seat at least 2 people. However, when it comes to stands in the woods, we are considering this thought process.
Each member is allowed 1 "red" stand per paying member. No one is allowed to hunt the red stand unless permission is given by stand owner. Each Red stand location must be selected prior to Nov. 1 of each hunting year. Once your red stand location has been selected, it stays in that area as your red stand until Jan 31.
Help me find the holes in this thought, and what do you think about it.
Thanks,

Re: New Camp Questions
All stands should always be first come first served. You can't all share the land but one person have a lock on a certain area. Obviously if you go in and put up a stand and want to hunt it.....you should be able to......but others should be able to hunt there too without asking. That's part of being in a club and not owning your own land. You'll find that certain areas are better than others. What do you do when 3 years down the road a new member comes in and there's not really a good place left to put a stand? It'll never be fair then........unless it's a new process each year of drawing numbers to determine who gets to put stands where.

We share stands don't think it would go to well if you did not. As long as everyone are friends and communicate its no problem

Re: New Camp Questions
Like the idea of each member having their own personal red stand. Don't like the idea of not being able to move it all season. Circumstances could change from Nov 1st to Jan 1st. You might not be seeing any deer at your red stand and want to move it or you may find a hot scrape line that you want to hunt. I am assuming the red stands would be portable climbers/ladder/loc-on type stands that are easy to move. Maybe allow everyone to move their red stand but it can't be placed within 200 yds of any other stand. We share all ladder and tripod stands and all food plot stands. We can put up a climber and just not tell anyone where it is located but we have a sign in book and you have to sign in your location every time you enter the woods so everyone knows where you are hunting.
Sounds like you have a good thing going that will be a lot of fun for the kids.
