Getting married...any advice?

Postby DuckyDan » Mon May 10, 2004 8:06 am

Well, guys, I'm getting married in less than three weeks. Any advice?

I've already bought new golf clubs and my coat and waders are still in good shape, so I think I'm set.

Dan, let me know how it goes. I'm taking the plunge in August. I've been acumulating necessary gear as fast as possible to head off any possible "glitches" I might encounter after the wedding.

Get a prenup that inclues you can continue hunting at the same rate you are now and she won't try and change that! That is about the only thing my wife and I argue about, I don't see what's the big deal with about 80 days of hunting a year??

Thanks guys. She's a sweet gal and I consider myself the luckiest guy alive. I took her out to the refuge when I was still at MSU last fall and we sat out there at sunset while all of the ducks were going to roost, just listening to the ducks and geese. She said, "I can see why you like this so much now." I took her deer hunting with me this last year and she seemed to enjoy it too...maybe a little too much. She slept the whole time.

She's been supportive of everything so far, even me talking about a lease in the delta this fall!

She's a good, beautiful Christian girl with a good head on her shoulders.

Thanks guys.

It will be the worst mistake you will make. Over 50% end up in divorce.

I'm getting hitched in July but it feels like I am already there. I have been moving all of her stuff into my place since January and still have more to go.
She doesn't like hunting like your's does but she understands that I am going to go everytime I get a chance so that will work for me.
I hope everything will work out for you two, and maybe you will be as happy as my future wife and I will be in July.

I have only been married for almost two years, so I am still a rookie. But the one thing I have learned is to be honest with each other and always communicate. Communication sounds very easy and usually is at first, but over time will start to slip. I think talking with each other about everything is a key to a successful marriage, no matter if you are tired, mad, or both.

Good luck and may you have many years of happiness in your marriage and hunting.

QuackH20, we are kinda in the same boat on this one. You couldn't pay my fiancee to go duck hunting (not that I complaining) because it is too cold. She can't stand the cold. However, she never bats an eye at the mention of me taking another trip. I have been bleesed in this sense. By the end of the season she is ready for me to take a break, but most of the time she doesn't seem to mind. Works for me. :D
