Upgrading prospects of Dogs and Rebs

Ok, after the first two weeks, I am upgrading my earlier prospects for the Dogs and the Rebs. Both Auburn and Arkansas are very winnable games for both (of course, the Dogs have already thrashed the woeful, QB challenged Tigerettes). I am upgrading
MSU to finish with 7-8 wins, and the Rebs to go bowling with 6 wins.

Tyler Russell looks like the real deal. And so does Bo Wallace. Gotta have a good QB to win in the SEC. Barring an injury, I would expect these two QBs to continue to improve with more experience. As they go, so will their teams and the wins.

Thats what worries me...depth.

Well, few if any other teams in the SEC could withstand an injury to their starting QB. Except for maybe Auburn, since their backup could hardly be worse.

Let's not blame Auburn's poor performance solely on their QB. All their stellar recruits over the past 4 years have either transferred, gone to jail, quit the team, been kicked off the team, or failed to qualify. Not to mention their coaching staff is extremely overrated.

It's the Family way.

But I digress. I think MSU looked better than I have seen them in years. Jury still way out on OM.

I certainly did not mean to put it all on AU's QB Frazier (btw, did any announcer say "down goes Frazier"), as he certainly had a lot of help in the loss. And MSU's D gets a lot of the credit as well. But, the poor QB play, especially in the first half really stuck out. Without an accurate passer, AU can't utilize it's talented receivers and TE Luchenhammersomethingorother. And they become one dimensional, then it diminishes McCaleb's effectiveness. MSU played em like Charlie Daniels' fiddle.

Yep, the jury is still out on the Rebs. Will find out a lot this coming Saturday. I'll be there in the jury box to pass judgment afterward.

I don't think I would be slotting the rebels in for a bowl game just yet. They won two games that all sec teams should win.

I wouldn't put them at 6 or better yet either...but his prognostication was not simply based on the fact Ole Miss won 2 games...given all factors it's far more conceivable than it was 2 weeks ago, that's without doubt...get with the program Joe :wink:

If State isn't 7-0 going into the Alabama game, every ticket should be refunded.

I have a feeling that the Rebels are gonna give Texas all they can handle this weekend. Texas is not that good...the Rebels probably aren't either. The one thing the Rebels don't have that the Longhorns do have that could greatly affect the outcome is pressure. Texas is facing an SEC team they should beat on the road and their coach (Brown) is probably feeling a heat in pants right now after last year. On the other hand, Ole Miss has absolutely nothing to lose (because they are supposed to lose) and they have a new found confidence not seen in Oxford for close to three years. All of the pressure to win in squarely on Bevo.

If the crowd is in it, they can affect the Texas QB play...which is tenuous at best right now anyway. Get an INT or two, and Ole Miss takes this thing to the wire IMO.

I don't know about that, the Vols look to be for realz. That will most definitely be the matchup of the year in Starkvegas, our secondary vs. their wrs/qb.

I really do think State has the depth this year(except freaking kicker) at every position to make a run at it. They have so many players getting reps that really look good and i am surprised at the youth showing out on the o-line. They played with great poise and the score was not even close to the skull dragging going on out there.

UM is a pleasant surprise so far even though we all expected them to be in this position with the two cupcakes they just played. Bo looks to be further along than he was in the Spring. I think they make it a really good game this weekend but i think UT, as down as they may be, will still pull away with their depth and talent. Kudos to Freeze for the job he has done so far waking up the Grovers and getting them off their hands, and i think it's what will keep this game closer than what it should be. Good luck and I'll be cheering for ya(might wanna bookmark that cuz it don't happen often).

Just saying we will see if the OL and QB are the real deal when they play SEC teams I don't think they are. Also UTEP was without its starting QB or RB.

Granted, I'm not convinced Ole Miss is going to win 6 games after these first two, regardless of any circumstances....HOWEVER, UTEP was not without it's starting QB, so much not without him that he threw for nearly 300 yards and they still only scored 10 points...and neither the QB or RB woulda kept Ole Miss from scoring a single of it's 28 points, I don't see any validity in your reasoning there???

Bo Wallace is a very capable and talented QB, blind man could see that...O-line play is unknown, the scheme will help them alot...and having a good QB and good backs will also help them some...I think they'll fair better than they did under Nutt and Markuson but I'm sure be exposed for depth and talent against better SEC teams...

if you were trying to tell me that our defense is not gonna hold up in SEC play and the offense wouldn't be able to carry the team by itself, I'd buy a lot more into your point....

My reassessment of my tigers is 4 wins and that's assuming we can beat the rebs. Pretty sure we could not beat them today and won't in October without major changes.
I was blindly optimistic after the opener with Clemson. Thought the staff could make some necessary adjustments and we'd see some improvement. Boy was I wrong! If a teams biggest improvement is from week 1 to 2, we are im deep schidt! The good :We have one of the top kicking games in the country. The bad: everything else! This team could not beat the 2008 team with or without Tony Franklin! Beyond that 08 team , I have to go way back to find a comparable team. To put it mildly, we suck. Now, not trying to take anything away from state. They may very well be the real deal. And if they are, they deserve it. I now know how both you ole miss and state fans feel to watch a pityful excuse for a football team take the field and have very little hope for improvement during the current season. The problems we have can't be corrected during the season. 90% of this is on the coaching staff in my opinion.
PS - if anyone has an extra TV for sale, let me know. The one at my camp got shot in Saturday :oops:

Not to kick an ant hill, but given history of both Bama and Auburn...the school on the bottom of the heap is typically more likely to take "extra measures" to climb back up and get caught. If I were an Auburn fan, I'd be a little worried about Yella Fella or one of the other prominent alums overstepping their bounds in an effort to level the playing field.

That being said, and with it being obvious that Chizik is in way over his head in the absence of the best college offensive player in history, who will Auburn go after as his replacement when he is terminated at the end of the year?

I would assume the list would look like this:
(1) Gruden (because everyone has him at the top of their list);
(2) Chris Peterson;
(3) Gary Patterson;
(4) Bobby Petrino;
(5) Art Briles.
