New shells anyone?
Anyone trying anything new this year? Always interesting the wide diversity of opinions concerning shells. 2 3/4 or 3 inch, choke, size, speed, shot weight, shot shape, $, etc. I know a lot depends on distance but still lots of opinions. Hevi shot speed ball looks interesting. Gimmick?

May try a box or two of blindside to see how they pattern but will mainly shoot fast steel since they pattern the best in my gun.

+1 I got lucky at the end of season I had to order another case of shells from rogers and they sent me 2 for the price of one. I called and told them and they said to keep no chargeRiverDuck wrote:I ordered 2 cases! Re: New shells anyone?
I conducted an unitentional and unscientific experiment this year. Hunted with a bunch of folks last season and because I don't mind cleaning everyone's ducks and actually like duck, I get to take most everyone's duck meat.
The folks I hunted with shot a variety of shells - hevishot, Kent, Remington this and that, Federals .... but only one guy shot Blindside.
Over the course of the year, in the process of eating all said ducks, my family and I have come across numerous pellets in the meat. What I found interesting was that the overwhelming majority of them were Blindside pellets - easy to identify because of the cube shape.
Other than the obvious explanation that Mr Blindside is a hell of a lot better shot than everyone else, any thoughts on whats going on?
My guess was that the shape , ie., flat sides, reduced the pellets' ability to pass cleanly through the meat, more drag or something. If this is true is it a good thing?

Blindside starts losing it's "power" at about 30 yards. A smooth, round object will travel farther and faster than a square one. I shot two boxes year before last just to try them, but I mainly bought them because it's tough finding a 3" load with 1 3/8oz of shot these days. I'll stick to the blue box Federal's or red box Federal's that have been put on discontinued pricing.Marenisco wrote:I conducted an unitentional and unscientific experiment this year. i like the saying... i got enough dog to shoot the cheap bullets
however, there were three pretty incredible, lucky really, shots I saw made by different clients last year and I had to ask what they were shooting, and each time they said Heavy Metal. I've never shot em but plan on shooting a box or two this year. take it for what it's worth.

Love the saying! Heavy Metal and some of the others are in the class with the old lead from back in the day, so there is a differencechampcaller wrote:i like the saying... i got enough dog to shoot the cheap bullets![]()
