Spiders and Snakes???

Postby Dutch Dog » Sun Dec 02, 2001 10:34 pm

Guys, we killed a snake Saturday morning. Did anyone else see any snakes? A fella we talked to that hunted with Beartail outfitters said they killed 2 snakes. Did anyone happen to notice literally thousands upon thousands of spider webs in the tops of bushes/trees along rivers that have been blown out by the recent rains? I would assume both of these were caused by the high water pushing snakes out of their "dens" where they were hybernating (sp?) and covering the normal ground where spiders lurk forcing them to retreat to higher ground.

There were alot of spiders in the Coldwater end of Arkabutla. The hardest part of hunting Saturday was trying to find a place shallow enough to put out the dekes! When we did get set up, the spiders were all over us, hanging off the brush and flying through the air on thier silken parachutes. We also saw a colony of ants (thousands) clinging to a tree. They were rotating I guess to stay afloat some had to hold on underwater.

What's the matter Dutch Dog? Are you afraid of spiders and snakes, or just the dark?

If anyone is squeemish about spiders, you wouldn't have wanted to be with me Sat. anything that didn't move was literally covered with the little critters. Anything else (me for instance) was only mostly covered. I had my collar buttoned because the spiders kept crawling down the back of my neck.

Spiders and ants were about to eat us up!!! Our camphouse was surrounded by water and the only dry ground was where the house was sitting. When we weren't hunting we were constantly killing spiders or ants.
Saturday when we picked up the dekes they were covered with ants too.
