M C McLemore and Son
I just picked up another McLemore call from eBay. This one is the first style call that Mike and his dad Marion ever made. Pretty proud to be the new owner of this one, will post a picture as soon as it gets here next week.

Thanks for letting me have her
! Worth a lot more than what I paid to me, as Mike's family. I have more good memories with him than I can count from duck hunting, dove, goose and a lot of ole baseball memories too. He is one of the good guys for sure!

Only one of that call that I have seen for sale in many years. Thanks bro!
Re: M C McLemore and Son
Good looking call, no matter where it was made.
As I am a call nerd these days, I want to know all I can about all the call makers I can.
Can you give some info on the McLemores?

Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Re: M C McLemore and Son
He is from Huntingdon, TN. He still makes calls but Mike is in bad health. Mike Mclemore was the man when I was growing up I'm 29 now and I thought he was God. Mike won the champions of champions in 80, and the world in 77, 74, and 73. I have about 10 of his calls ,some wood some acrylic and some I don't think ever went to market. His calls are nasty most of them are double reeds but he also made some single reed calls. Mike is a very very personable guy and I have had the pleasure of hunting with him and watching him build calls beings I grew up about 10 miles from his house. The name of his call now is the real deal. Probably search around and find something's on him. Also huntingdon, tn is about like gwood. Everybody hunts and it's the same place I had the boat get hit by the train.teul2 wrote:Good looking call, no matter where it was made.

Re: M C McLemore and Son
Man, I'm glad you asked. GNR did a great job on the calling history about Mike. Mike is my cousin, so I am a bit partial and was also afforded the ability to spend many hours with him over the years in and out of the duck blind and on and off the baseball diamond. Mike, my dad and a whole bunch of other rough necks (bune, squirrel, etc) all hunted together as kids back when the waders sucked and all the walks were always up hill both ways in the snow through ice! Their crew was called the "Highway 70 Gang" while they were growing up, lol. Can you imagine that, a gang of kids back in the fifties? Mike was always told by his dad, Marion that he could accomplish what ever he wanted. He gave him credit for his calling success and passion. He also said that listening to live ducks had a lot to do with his learning. He couldn't play a musical instrument to save his life, but could certainly make music with a duck call. Chick Majors was his mentor, who was also a damn good man and his wife is a saint too!
He also won the War Eagle Boats Shoot Out back in 1999. This competition pitted him against Buck Gardner and Eli Haydel and he was the clear cut winner. The contest involved hunting 3 duck blinds on 3 consecutive days with a points scoring system, green heads being the highest score, etc. He has his own website these days and facebook page. You can also read about him on callingducks.com
Mike would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, he is one of the best men that I have known in my lifetime. He played football at UT Chattanooga and also played a little semi-pro football back in the day too (guess that means he got paid, literally a $ or 2). He can make a $5 poly call sound like a real duck, and I have heard it many, many times. His son and I are 1 year apart in age and played many a baseball game together back in the day. Mike coached our summer league team (Dizzy Dean League) while we were in college and we went to the Dizzy Dean World Series several years in a row and also won the whole shooting match one year too. He was a great coach and student of the game of baseball too!
I don't expect that he will ever turn another wood call on a lathe, so they are priceless to me! Marionfd, has also hunted with him on a special invite up at Reelfoot Lake a few years back. We had a blast, killed plenty of ducks, ate like kings and sat back and listened to Mike tell his stories. To be honest, he probably had as many baseball stories from our baseball days as he did duck hunting stories and they were all a pleasure to listen to. He hunted in Canada one trip many years ago and never went back. He said that it was just too easy to kill the ducks up there and he appreciated the challenge that hunting em in the great state of TN provided. I haven't been to Canada yet, but can't wait to decide for myself, lol
Yep, Mike McLemore is one of my heros for many reasons that aren't duck hunting related and some that are!
