Need some ideas guys
Guys I've bought me a little duck camp off the Pearl River and it has no running water no electricity other then a genny no nothing 3.2 miles from nearest road of civilization. (WHICH IS FREAKING SWEET BY THE WAY!!!) I'm trying to think of some good ways to come up with a solution to getting some type of water down there. Just to wash your hands and flush a toilet. I been pondering the Idea of a 55 gallon drum with a winch to pick the drum up high enough to let gravity do the work or something along that idea of a pump pumping water from the river into the a 55 gallon drum with some type of cut off after the water gets to a certain level it cuts the pump off.
Anyone got some good ideas?
And I'm thinking about doing a hot water heater like the Amish ppl make if yall ever seen such a deal and have a bath tub for the long weekend down there.

a 55gal drum up in the air would work fine for what you are gonna be using it for and i would just use a bilge pump hooked to a water hose to fill it up. top it off each time you get ready to leave the camp and you should be fine...

A friend of mine has a cabin on a mountain in Alabama. He hooked all the gutters up to catch rain water and run the pipe to a holding tank on the uphill side of the cabin.

Do they ever half to worry about the water getting stagnent or anything? With I know its only going to be used to flush and wash your hands with.

we have a 300 gallon water tank filled from roof water. use a 12 volt 20 gallon pressure tank. power from 2000kw honda generator (quiet & portable) Only problem with 55 gallons, can go fast during droughts, not that we need to worry about droughts
Re: Need some ideas guys
A few drops of bleach in water should keep it. I would use a black barrel also...algae cant grow if it doesnt get sunlight.

Where did you find that size of a tank at?

If you are on the river the water table should be very shallow and you could punch your own well and put a hand pump on the top of it.

I'm pretty sure Rankin Cty Co-op would have a 300 gallon tank.

Some one on either jackson or hattiesburg craigslist had those 250 gallon tanks for $100 i think. You could build a stand to put it on to be high enough to gravity feed. Also get a bucket of chlorine tablets and throw one or two in evry few weeks.
found it 75$ for a 275 gallon tank

Got our big tan from a bakery. Its square and enclosed with metal protection. Before this tank we had three 55 gallon drums lined togather.
Re: Need some ideas guys
Just do a cistern like others have mentioned. Couple tabs of chlorine and your good. Put you a cover on it to reduce evaporation and critters from getting into it.
Can do a 12v pump like in a camper and use a solar panel to charge the battery.

Yall guys got some pretty good little ideas I really like the idea Scottbrown gave there I'm going to try that. I wouldn't think the water table would be any farther then 25ft or 30.
