Amyone with access to a pit for training??

I do about 90% of my hunting out of a pit. I got a few pit related training areas that I need to hit on, and was wandering if anyone has a pit on there training grounds. I'll pay for use of the pit a few times each month. Thanks in advance!

I'm sure you already know this, but be very careful with the moccasins!!! They love to hang around pits this time of year.

I built a box to help me train. I have it right side up to simulate a stand in the timber or a permanent blind. I flip it upside down to simulate her getting in and out of a pit. Not perfect, but its easy to use and no worries about snakes.

Just a word of caution.......I'd start-out with a low-sided box, then gradually raise the sides to the dimensions of the dog box on your pit.
Reason: A 7 year-old MH ('Rusty' owned by 'Duck Chaser') tore one of his rear leg ligaments jumping out of a ground blind at a training day over at our house a couple of years ago. Apparently there was already a tear or damage, but the stress of jumping up to clear the frame was enough to finish it off. Fortunately, surgery and re-hab was successful (but costly) and Rusty is back hunting, again.
This may not be as much of a concern with a younger dog, but it also may be worth consideration.

I agree with the lower sides. I built mine with 2 high sides and 2 low sides. She had a hard time with the high sides, so we are using the low one's right now. Its really not the same as a pit because she has to jump over the sides getting in versus stepping down in a pit, but its as close as I could get.
