In the market for a new one. What brand do you prefer? 2 or 4 cycle? Does the difference in cc's really make that big of difference (i.e. 25cc vs. 28cc)? Will only be used around my house. Usually takes one good raking/bagging job and then upkeep from then on.

Stihl. Best choice and worth the $. If you're blowing off asphalt and sidewalks on a routine basis and just the occasional leaf pile get the smaller handheld unit. If you're blowing a lot of leaf piles I'd opt for the big handheld. Commercial go backpack.

Shindawa has never let us down, and we run them constantly. We finally retired one of our originals last year and it was around 7-8 years old.

Just bought a Husqvarna at Lowes for $150 to replace a POS Poulan that was only a year old. The Poulan was hard to crank from day one. The new one cranks with easy, runs much smoother, is quieter, and is lighter with just as much power as the old one. Its got all the power I need for around the house. Comes with a 2 year mfg. warranty.

I got a troy bilt bacpack blower last year from the pawn shop was like new an gave $80 for it and it is a beast!

Stihl hands down, they are all we used at University of Mississippi Grounds and Maint. They are built to last and be used all day. If price is something you are keeping an eye on, I would take a look into Echo. I have a PB 250 hand held that has more than enough power to moves piles of leaves around the yard.

Stihl and shindawia are gonna be your two best choices, they are also two of the most espensive but you get what you pay for.

Husqvarna's arent what they used to be.

redmax. i've been running the same backpack blower for almost 7 years and it was used commercially for two years before that.

I have an echo backpack blower that about 10 years old, bought it in highschool when i cut grass part time, it got a lot of use for a few years then my dad kept it for around his house when i went to college. Its been sitting for about 2 years without being run now(old ethanol gas in it). I went and got it from him recently and went to start it on monday, poured out the old gas, primed it to get the fuel line empty and pulled the cord a few times with the spark plug out, poured in new gas and gave it one shot of carb cleaner and it fired right up. Same story with my echo weedeater. I was impressed on both accounts; i was expecting to have to at least pull the carbs apart.

I bought the stihl blower that's one step above their entry level model. It'll start on the first pull after sitting up all winter. It'll also rock you back a little when goosing the throttle. If you have a lot to do......i'd get the backpack. If you don't....i'd get the handheld i'm talking about. I can't think of the number off of it.....but will look tonight.

I currently have 3 leaf blowers, stihl backpack (50:1), weed eater 150 (35:1), and a toro electric. It all depends what you need to do. The stihl is awesome my wife gave it to for my birthday. She is now gonna get a vacuum for her birthday. For quick easy jobs around the house the electric blower gets the job done. The other is a p.o.s.
