Anyone ever used any after-market choke tubes...

I thought about maybe trying one out this season. Anyone ever patterned them? I'm very curious. I thought about the Patternmaster for my Browning 12 ga. I wonder does it make that much of a difference. On the longer shots it would seem that it would. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

I use the Highflyer Xtra full choke tube. You can definitly reach out and touch something with it.

I was in the store a few weeks ago buying a case of # 4's. The little punk behind the counter asked if I was sure I wanted # 4's, he said most get # 2's. I said I sure am buddy, If you get them close like you're supposed to, you can kill 'em w/ #6's. He shut up after that. My feeling on those extended tubes, if you shoot them way out there, you're missing out on the in your face , feet down action..

Yeah I agree but I take a lot of people who only get to go a couple of times a year which means I end up shooting last if at all so they are a little far out there.
I also like the extra full goose hunting.

Yada yada yada.... My feeling is work big nuff flocks the front ones feet are in yo face, and start shooting from the rear! bwhahahaha. Sheeeeeet, now someones not a 'real' big johnson duck hunter cause he shoots a tight choke, Ive heard it all.

When the wind blows, we shoot patternmasters. Awesome. When your pulling feathers in a crosswind, a patternmaster kills them dead.

I shoot a Briley IM extended choke not because I sky bust. I use it because it gives me tight and consistant patterns from 20-35 yds. I reload my own steel shells (thanks for the hulls Mark!!) and get right at 1600 fps with a 2.75" loaded with 1 oz of #3's. I can kill a duck dead at 15 yds or 40 yds - if necessary. I get just over 1500 fps in my 3" #2 handloads.

My factory chokes just didn't produce any sort of decent patterns with my fast steel reloads. THAT is why I went with a Briley choke.

one of my buddies uses a patternmaster in his Browning and another uses a Briley in his Mossberg... i have seen some pretty impressive shots from them both... not so much in range, as some good clean kills... they both shoot some good tight patterns... i found that my factory tubes hold a good pattern in my particular gun as opposed to a aftermarket choke...

i too shoot a high flyer xtra full for 2 reasons.
1. i had to have a steelshot choke
2. it was the only one i could find at the last minute.

i will have to get another for hunting in the woods. this one is just too tight for that.

I shoot rm 870 and have had ggod luck with the a/m charlson chokes (30 a piece) from cabelas
they offer, close (decoys), mid range (out to 40 yds) and long 45 and beyond, pattern real well with kent (3", #2)

Amen mallardchaser, I hunted with a 20ga 2.3/4 and shot #4's last year and to my suprise, did just fine, I actually learned a little pactience (sp)
