If you have not read that book your missing out. He's no doubt a top three who'd I pick to share a hunt with. A slave who killed a bear by 10, fought for the south he loved at 14, rode and served with Forrest, saw Albert Sydney Johnston die on the battle field at Shiloh, hunted with rosevelt. And that just to name a few things. Truly a great woodsman and skilled hunter.

One of my favorites!

Roosevelt and Holt kept in correspondence over the years by letter. He even tried to get Holt to accompany him on other hunts in Africa. Holt never took him up on it though...

I agree as well. One of the very few books I've ever read by choice. Easy reading as well.

Yep. We were in the Forest Sunday morning not far from the 1902 campsite.

Hey Rob, is the campsite marked with a marker, or do you just know where it is?

I've never been to it. Just going from the map in the book.

I wonder if anyone has ever retraced it and documented it to the extent that one could find it. Be pretty neat if you could.

I was thinking about doing just that before the skeeters get too bad.

Went and picked up my signed copy and actually talked to the author. Seems like a great guy. He is an attorney here in Jackson. Feel free to pm me and I can tell you where To go buy the book. For the local guys, he is in the Heritage building downtown. Suite M
