In reference to Deer Season, that is. My dad's had a helluva chitty season to say the least. Hasn't pulled the trigger yet and has been seeing nearly next to nothing all season. Young does, yearlings, spikes, and button heads have filled his mornings and evenings in the woods all year long. But finally, the stars aligned yesterday. About 3pm, he called me (I at work and he leaving work) and asked, "Which way is the wind out of?" I looked it up on the trusty internet machine and told him which way and how hard. I told him "with the wind blowing like that, the stand down on the creek would be perfect." He agreed and told me that's where he was headed. About 5 I was on my way home from the office and he text me. "Same two yearlings been seeing at about 80 yds". I text him back saying "wait for their momma". His reply, "i been waitin all year". I told him "she'll show up today. i feel it." "hope so" was his reply. At 5:40, my phone rings and I see that it's him. Too early for him to be back to the truck I knew something was up. He told me, "You lied to me. Their momma didn't show up." I asked "what showed up?" He said "either their daddy or big brother showed up." He said while he watched the two yearlings feed right in front of him, he saw a deer come out of the thicket about 150 yds at the other end of the food plot. He knew it wasn't momma and he let the ole .45-70 fly. He said it was the best deer he's ever killed and I could tell the excitement in his voice. I couldn't get home quick enough to put my boots on and go help him get it out of the woods. May not be a trophy by some people's standards. But for my dad, and considering the possiblity of getting skunked for the year, it's a Booner in our book. Congrats Buddy Roe. You earned this one.
