Lets talk Turkey chokes

Postby bottomland84 » Tue Jan 17, 2012 8:51 pm

I have 3 guns that I take to the turkey woods....

1. Mossberg 835 3 1/2 24 inches ported barrel. Primos Jelly head .665

2. Remington 870 3 inch mag with 28 inch barrel. HS strut Undertaker .665

3. Browning Gold 3 1/2 26 inch barrel. Need advise on a choke.

The shell I use most is in my Mossberg 835 and its a Federal Flight Control 3 1/2 inch # 5 shot.

I listed these because I want some opinions on what type of choke for each application you recommend or use and what size and shot and brand of shell you recommend.

Also list what your go-to gun and set up is.

I had a chance at a single shot 10 a few years ago and didnt jump on it, it was the old school camo NEF. Quackerkiller on here has one and I watched him level a longbeard with it at 60 yards + or -

i hope you a helmet and a mouthpiece when you shoot that cannon.

i had a 12 like this and was by far my favorite gun for toting but not shooting.

And I had a friend miss the whole Turkey Season a couple of years ago with a detached retina for pulling the trigger on his 10 Ga.

Just call um into about 35 yards, watch and enjoy the whole show before you pull the trigger and then eat some turkey.

i don't know what all the hype is about, its not all the bad. i shot three turkeys with it last year and did not even notice the recoil.

i have a kicks .655 in my benellie SBE and i shoot the hevi shot magnum blends and it is better than the 10 ga (except with the nitros)

my SBE with the .655 like the cheaper winchester 3.5 #5's and the magnum blends really shine in it.

i shoot it standing up about 4-5 times every year with some cheap shells before the seaon to make sure i can still hold on to it.

heavi shot #7's are bad news to.

I use trulocks on my over under. I used to use those nitros, but remington turkey load dropped 6 last year from 20 yards to 60 yards, so I am going with the cheap shells.

I shoot the same thing, except I added a jellyhead tube on it, and yes, anything within 60-65 yards is toast

It. Is. A. Beast.

(and the for the record, I've never at shot one that far and probably wouldn't, but it's nice to know I can)
