I cant speak for all you guys, but speaking for myself, I am enjoying the heck out of "climate change". As a review of my comments above will clearly indicate, I have always said that the critical factor involved is CO2 concentration, not climate. The entire thread started with my observation that the wintering waterfowl migration into the South Delta had changed significantly in my lifetime and that one of the many factors involved was the lack of a winter. PML jumped on board and the rest is MSD history.

Getting back to the above, I am enjoying "climate change" because we had a real fall, a real winter and are having a real spring. I dont think the deer knew what to think about it but the ducks responded magnificently to the first real winter we have had in many years. What a fabulous duck season. For you newbies (35 or under), this is the way it used to be. Ducks got here and they stayed here.

On the other hand, deer season was very, very weird. Great early season action, slow PW season, awesome week or so right around Christmas then the virtual disappearance of deer throughout much of the state in January. It only got weirder after that with the the appearance of fresh buck sign in February and early March and a very, very late antler drop. Note that my deer herds are under carrying capacity, I have more bucks than does so dont give me that "too many does" garbage.

On one property I manage, we have taken 12 bucks and 80 does the last 5 seasons, you cant find a browse line, every doe has at least two and often three fawns at heel and you rarely see a spotted fawn during bow season. Yet I found fresh scrapes in early March. I think it will be very interesting to see how many young fawns show up this fall. Basically I believe there was a very late rut- caused by a whole generation of Mississippi deer experiencing the first winter of their lives and really of a preceeding generation or two as well. It wasnt just that we werent seeing deer that was strange, it was that you couldnt find any deer sign either. Its like the deer layed down and stayed layed down for over a month and yet now, there is deer sign all over the place.

Roll on epic thread...

Dear diary,
This morning the temperature was 33 degrees. I'm afraid if this global warming continues, I might just freeze to death.
