What level would that be? All I asked was why did you come on this forum bashing Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl when you admitted that there was nothing that either could do for you from the onset.

I do not disagree with you wanting to speak with those in the know to assist you with your issue, but I do disagreed with the direction you chose when you knew, according to your own words, that these organizations would not be able to assist you. Even after you contacted both organizations as well as MDWFP and MDWFP stated that DU and DW have no rights to how WMA's are managed in this state as well as all other states, you still thought it was approriate to criticize DU and DW. Your issue is with USACE, not MDWFP, DU and DW.

Hint!-Before you show up at that meeting find out the following background info!
was it purchased for the Tombigbee Mitigation?probably yes
is it administered by the Mobile or Vicksburg district ACOE? for your sake I hope it's Mobile because they will give enough money to MDWFP for management-Vicksburg will not
Was it purchased purely for terrestrial restoration- if so you are screwed!!!!ACOE will rarely put in money for wetland/waterfowl habitat. It is cheaper for them to drain and replant hardwood than it is to give MDWFP money annually for waterfowl habitat. The best you can hope for(in the long run) is for the beavers/siltation to come back after initial bottomland restoration or some type of winter backwater situation to take place. I am not familiar with the place and don't even know where it is but I know how this mitigation arrangement works with the Vicksburg district and their managers(MSWFP & USFWS) here in the delta. It's just a money thing with the ACOE- those overall mitigation plans were written long ago and the ACOE doesn't want to change them and legally doesn't have to change them. Just my 2 cents from being on the inside.

greenheadgrimreaper - Have you learned anything new about this subject?

We had out on site meeting last week. Myself and Tree Dr. were there repping the hunter. We had a round table conference for an hour, then went to the site on the argos( worth the trip alone). I told everyone present my confidence is once again restored with the MDWFP they are the only gubment sector that cares and will listen.

I went in the meeting knowing what's done is done. I took pictures and the average joe wouldn't recognize the damage unless an expert pointed the damages out. I hate to say it worse than anyone, but it had to be done. The main factor in the incident is the county drainage districts complete and total mismanagement of the Tallahega Canal. I'm getting on their case now.

The conference went from "okay this has to happen what can we do to improve habitat elsewhere" to "lets talk about where the MDWFP went wrong with this." If you drain a 30 year old swamp opening week with no notifications you WILL hear about it.

One biologist expressed concern that a handful of biologist can be demonized because the public wants their way. We discussed the issue of COMMUNICATION more than anything. We gave Ed Penny and Kevin Brunke some insight on ways they could communicate better as to why they are wanting to do certain management techniques. We discussed the outlook of a waterfowl report just like the turkey and whitetail. Ed Penny and company have some big plans for a state that's behind in waterfowl management, and communication with a group of people as sensitive as waterfowlers will be key for us to see any improvements.
