pntailhntr - if Skeeter hadn't had the connection should he have lost ALL hunting privileges too since there is no excuse for not knowing the season dates? I don't have that opinion but just wondering if the same rules should apply to someone you know vs. don't know.

I'll be honest with you, if he had lost all priveledges to hunt, I would have told him how stupid he had been for not making sure of the seasons. He knew there was a break in the season and should have made sure when it was. He knew he was the only one around and should have thought something was up. I also told him that when he did it. Would I have liked it, no, he is one of my hunting buddies and I would have hated to have seen it happen to him, but rules are rules and we all have to follow them or suffer the consequences!! He just got lucky and he also didn't have 44 ducks with him either, AND he didn't try to lie and say he was out scouting!!!!

This thread is becoming reminiscent of the GW corral, only on a smaller scale...

those guys where doing damage control for du, they heard 50 or so ducks slipped past the corn line and wanted to remove them from the population!

Guys messed up. Give em a ticket and rock on. But i will say 2 things about it... 1) if the man heard them shooting, why didn't they go get them and stop the hunt? MS seems different than other states in that regard, stop a violation in progress or head it off especially if there is a good chance its an accident. 2) why'd they hide the ducks? Made a misteak, hunted on a closed day, live with your misteak. Your daddy told you when you where 5 years old, 2 wrongs don't make a right. Tossing those ducks wasnt a misteak, it was an honest attempt to circumvent the law they had already (most likely accidently) broken. And to me, I'm madder about that than any accident. travis

ptail,

Get the delta goo out of your ears, I said IF they have clean records. I dont know their records, but if they have made a habit out of being game violators, chances are they have been caught at some point or another. That is all you have to go on. You have to use facts to make decisions on punishment, not probabilities.

All I am saying, is give some benefit of the doubt unless they have proven they dont deserve the benefit of the doubt in the past. After this, they should not be given benefit of the doubt ever again, and should not now if they have ever been caught doing somthing similar in the past.

agree

Travis, they weren't cought by MS game wardens from what I understand, It was the Federally Hood that caught em!! A MS game warden would have intervened. At least the ones I know would have.

The Federal guy called the State Warden and let him handle it. They didn't get the book "thrown at them". It could have been worse. Trust me. At least a few of the "Alabama Gang" will not be hunting the rest of the year in MS.

I imagne trucks & guns & boats wudda be confiscated had they thrown the book at em so to speak... feds don't play. If da fed called the state boys and let them handle it, from the beginging they where downplaying the event. I remember a friend who forgot a plug on da cash one day, and a fed & an arkie in the boat, and the fed telling the state warden to write it, to minmize it. Like someone said earlier in this thread, gw's know whos messed up, and whos trying to do wrong.

Off the topic, but the reason for my other question. One of my first expereinces hunting in mississippi was a dove field prepared by a friend. Another friend I hunted with quite often, was banished from arkansas for 3 years for shooting a bunny rabbit in the front yard of his duck camp while grilling... wasnt exactly spot lighting, but it was shooting at night, cost him 2 grand and 3 years in arkansas, and he took it like a man for doing something stupid. Anywho, needless to say this friend was VERY careful after losing arkansas over something stupid, so we arrived early and walked around the cable out to the field, to assure both of ourselves it was a kosher deal. 30 minutes into the shooting, the man shows up, 2 trucks and a walker to catch folks off the back side of the field. Get to the trucks and they are ready to write 21 tickets for baiting the field, cause there was some wheat with trash in it (sweep from the bottom of grain bins, had corn & sumthing else mixxed in) at the grove where the trucks where parked. Technicality yes, but by the letter of the law, we're baiting, and they got 2 MONTHS of stakeouts to prove it. 2 months, cause the guys that had the field before we're rougish, and these wardens wanted those guys. They where genuiniely disapointed the feller they where looking for wasnt there. In the end, they only wrote 4 tickets, to the guys who prepared the field, and the guy who owned it. Which was cool, and the way it should have been handled. But I asked then, and still ask, if we where going to unknowingly break the law, why not instead of 2 months of stakeout, leave a note the field was baited by a technicailty? Said they couldnt do that when I asked. Now these guys where nothing but poliete & professional when they figgered out who they had, but still a dang note wudda stopped the whole thing from happening. Maybe in the hunt here we're talking about, there wasnt time to go get those guys... but if there was, Id sure rather see someone go stop an illegal hunt, and go from there, than wait till its over.

Also off topic, why is it ok to post someone killed 44 ducks out of season on a public place, but if the season was in we couldnt name where it happeend for the dang internet scouters. travis
