Barring a major rain event. There's a 50% chance on Friday but I haven't seen any prediction of the amount. Have you heard anything?DanP wrote:Looking like 7-10 days until we see this closure.
7 days wouldn't be so bad on me - that'd get me through the Robert E Lee Holiday to hunt. 10 Days would make it through Rifle Season. My wife sent me the press release earlier today and I didn't have time to look over information to figure it out - but this afternoon I had figured 5 days worst case scenario but not sure about the effect of rain.
I'd heard this rumor earlier and talked to my source at the MDWFP who, in all honesty, said "We don't know". Basically I guess the few people above him - or the commission made this choice. My initial thoughts was it was due to complaints but quick research showed me that it's only been above 90' twice during Nov/Dec/Jan since 1978. Came close in 2005. 3rd highest water level (if it only goes to 90.5') since the backwater levee was finished.

No wake zone - that means idle only or no outboard at all.

Idle only I believe. Or at least slow.Chuckle12 wrote:No wake zone - that means idle only or no outboard at all.

Based on the trace amounts they are calling for on Friday. I'm sure the Corp will give us a better estimate in the next few days.southdeltan wrote:Barring a major rain event. Regarding this No Wake zone BS. so this means if i were to laod my boat at the dummyline, (or anywhere else in this newly closed area) sunflower river, yazoo River, diversion canal, etc... I have to idle everywhere? can someone with some actual knowledge about this chime in?

Well technically the new area isn't closed just yet (except Panther and that was by the USFWS, not MDWFP) - but it's pretty clear. It says the area is a no wake zone. I don't see any exclusions listed.420 racin wrote:Regarding this No Wake zone BS. so this means if i were to laod my boat at the dummyline, (or anywhere else in this newly closed area) sunflower river, yazoo River, diversion canal, etc... Re: Big River headed up..........
I called MDWFP and I was told from Law Enforcement that the No Wake Zone only applies to teh flooded backwater areas, and that as long as you are in the main channel of the river or lake or whatever you are good. Anywhere you could otherwise run faster than idle.
However; I read what it says, and i can see some GW (I know of two that would) give you a ticket as they raced their boat as fast as it would go to catch you to tell you it is a no wake zone, because that is what it says, and I can't argue tith them about it. But it says one thing and i am told another????? I'm going to be hunting in that nealry 700 square mile area they have closed (or will be shortly) and i will be running the boat in the rivers or lakes.
Wingman--SB--, what say yall, would you give a fellow a ticket for running his boat down the Sunflower or the Yazoo or the Diversion Canal?

Re: Big River headed up..........
I would give you a ticket, but I would let everyone else go. Even Lodiquacker.
Just remember that even if you're in the main channel, some of these channels are small and there are camps on the bank. You are responsible for your wake.
