Re: 3,000 ducks already
the purpose of the clipped toe mallard experiment is to see if, indeed, hunters enjoy hunting these mallards along with the migrating mallards. will these mallards migrate back and forth themselves. will they hang around year round? will these mallards draw migrating mallards to the clipped toe mallard locations? professionals answered these questions before the experiment ever started. that is why a significant amount of cash money has already been spent to validate and confirm that this is the case. federal officers have said that these mallards are subject to all the rules of any other mallard. there is nothing illegal about mixing clipped toe mallards with other mallards. a face to face 3 hour meeting with federal and state officers has already occurred. everything pertaining to this experiment was discussed and said to be legal. if the experiment works, the plan will be to invest much more money into all the assets necessary to raise mallard ducks from the hen/drake to various stages (2 day old to full grown) and sell and deliver them to customers, not only in Mississippi, but throughout the country. all of this was also discussed with federal and state officers. as far as the ms delta goes, i can see where a landowner, leasing a duck hole for x # of dollars could offer the lessee 100 or 200 clipped toe mallards in the hole as well. the customer could take or leave it. if the customer does not want the mallards, fine. however, if they do, then we could show them exactly how to do it. hopefully, we will be able to deliver high quality mallards at a very specific date and time and make sure that the customer is satisfied. mallards are rarely plentiful on opening day. the best mallard hunting is in January. with clipped toe mallards one can enjoy mallard hunting early as well.

Re: 3,000 ducks already
Doesnt it really just seem like it would take the fun out of hunting them? These are not considered WILD GAME to me. Yea they are not around humans or guns and stuff, i get that. You give the land owner mallards why? so he can sell his property to someone and gurantee they will kill a limit everyday?
OK guys I can make sure you kill your limit everyday! Why? Becuase ive been tracking and watching ducks really closely lately and seen their habits. They fly into this field at 0800 and by 0900 you can be back eating breakfast. Wouldnt you really get tired of this? Heck it would be cheaper to hunt like this. No waders, dont have to buy as many shells, use shot sling shots, no decoys or dogs.
Why dont yall try to train them to just land in the dang pit or blind with people and let them pet them!!!
I see it happening 1 year and alot of hunters will be burnt out that pay the money. I dont agree with it nor would I pay to hunt like this. But you have the BIG yahoos with money that will do this just for pictures and to talk about it. But then you think the farmers will have a hard time leasing their land after the 1st year? or the farmers around them leasing the land?
Just seems to me like you and your possy are trying to take the fun out of scouting, watching the birds patterns and even hunting waterfowl. Then going to try and make a buck out of it.
Some people will do anything for a duck, like phil robertson would say.
But I wont do that, I say.
Why you have to do this in MS? Why dont you go to OH and try these things?
What would actually be the sport of this honestly? I can see if possibly being fun raising them and moving them and stuff like that.
What yall going to do when season comes around and if the birds dont move? or just fly back and fourth to the breaks they are use to? Then the ducks starve becuase they dont know how to move and look for food. Its like raising a deer, you feed it a bottle and put food out for it then put it in the wild and it has no idea how to live on its own or anything. It goes back to what it is use to.
Just what I really think of this. No I havent read all the pages either and think this is total BS to do something like this. But what ever floats your boat man, just remember something can always sink it.

So has it been said who they people are or who was spoken with? Any documentation on what they think will happen or is it just what you are saying they said? You know things get a little turned around when it goes down the line sometimes.
I read something about Dan P or somebody but thats it.
This will be great also. MS has a bunch of pen raised birds flying around its state in the delta and everywhere else. Hum, lets get a bunch of people down there or over there and start hunting them.
You see alot of albanians already migrating west and invading us (from seeing other members pick at them). So thank you in advance for your well spent dollar to give MS a great name.
Wasnt their a place in AR that did this years ago? I remember when I hunted at Claypools we always passed a place off the highway that had a billboard that said want to kill your limit or something. I actually called to see what it was about and how they could guarantee your limit. Well they raised them and basically tought them to fly into these 3 areas that are hunted and you shoot them, oh if you miss they will come back in a couple of minutes. I think the areas were set up as feeding grounds or something. I dont remember exactly. Havent seen that place anymore when I went over there a little while back.

Daybreak, I really do get your point. This is a well conceived commercial venture and nothing more...nothing less. I would really like to ask one thing of you, though. Please stop calling this venture "duck hunting!" It is not hunting at all. The "sports" will know where the ducks are, so they don't have to "hunt" them. Please start labeling this endeavor as what it is...duck shooting! It is no different than shooting clay targets, so I won't try to stop you calling it a sport.
Personally, it makes me sick and I wouldn't allow it anywhere around me. But this is America. You have a right to try to make money at it. But, please stop trying to pass it off as hunting.

Billy Dunavant had/has a place in Arkansas where he did this. It was just for himself and close friends though. Not to make money. They would release 50 or so mallards at a time that were trained to fly to this one duck hole where they were fed. Except every so often, they would be waiting with guns instead of food. Not sure how many ducks that dude has to kill in his life (either legally, questionably, or otherwise) before he is content. His place near Charleston is always slammed with ducks. It's a good measure of how many ducks are in the area when you pass his place. If it is covered with mallards, things are good. If it only has a few dozen spoonies and divers, then there aren't many big ducks in Tally County.
Re: 3,000 ducks already
In the coming year, NCWA looks forward to working with over 30 project cooperators who will fund the release of more than 27,000 mallards across North Carolina. These mallards will provide hunting opportunity for all North Carolina duck hunters. Banding data from released mallards shows that 50% of the released mallard harvest comes from hunters on public and private habitats not associated with mallard program cooperator sites.
Well why would the ducks stay if they have no food there?
So in other words the birds are leaving and going to other property right by them possibly? From the data shown by the South Carolina wildlife doing this.
From reading the 2 sites, Alabama and South Carolina, they are bringing birds in and tagging them then releasing them into the wild. Not raising them then telling them to shew. I didnt see anything about clipping a toe either on them.
Also only Alabama and South Carolina have done this and seems not to work (from what I saw on Google like you asked). So why would yall jump on this and act like you all are doing us HUNTERS something good and also good for the state?
I mean yall got that much money to fork out and think your doing that good my pocket is open always.

south carolina has been doing this since the 1980's so it appears to work. the ducks spread out across the state precisely because they are not tame ducks. indeed, all hunters will not enjoy this, but others will. economically, the delta would receive more income if there were more people coming here. sports stores, restaurants, hotels, land owners, etc. would benefit. have a good one!

I didnt see anything saying they been doing it since then. I just saw in 1983 a group of land owners started a group to try and do this called like RSA or something, NOT THE STATE.
You make no freaking sense to me. You say read this and go to this and oh we have game wardens and all this behind us and all the other people saying it will be great and so on. Nothing you have said in any of these actually support what your doing.
If you really look at what your doing and what they did or are doing, I can not see anything saying today they are doing what you are, you are doing it backwards. They bring the ducks in and sell them off to people at 4-6 weeks old. Then at 10-12 weeks they fly off and move around to support their waterfowl seasons.
Someone calls you out and you can not support anything you are saying. No proof, no supporters that you can verify or have you backed up.
You are right they are not tame ducks that the other places have done. But yours basically are. How you going to get them to leave the property they are on? You going to hunt the property they are on now? or what?
I mean come on. You throw this out there and think all these people on the site will jump up and down and be happy about it? Oh then say it will help the area its being done in with the farmers and hunters and businesses and such. Heck you get that many people around in the same area hunting the birds will fly bye and flip you off!
Show some pictures, documentations from supports or anything. Besides saying oh yea they are saying this will be great and yada yada yada.....
You can not thats the problem.

it is against the law to transport ducks without clipping the back right toe or marking the mallard in some other way.............the birds being bought and released in south carolina come from the same type physicality that my neighbor bought his from

u r right......they did not feed the ducks as my neighbor is doing........my neighbor did not invest this money to see them fly off into the wild blue yonder the next day or month for that matter.........these mallards will be fed until 10 days prior to hunting and will hopefully hang around for a month or so before leaving..........as for food, the mallards have been getting the vast majority of their food from the break for weeks now. there is plenty of food available where they are being moved to as well.

u have half of this right.........my concern is not with the hunter that does not like this idea.........my concern is for the hunter that does........my concern is for creating revenue off land that we have bought through many years, if not generations of hard work.........u are welcome to come buy land and handle it the way u would like.....the local people supporting this idea have been here for generations dating back to the 1800's........
