My wife doesn't understand why anyone would wake up that early and go out in the cold, but she does encourage me to go as my job is very stressful and she knows I need the downtime.. I tell her to go to the spa and we try to go on a nice vacation every year. She has the rest of my weekends during the year. It helps alot now that my kids are old enough to get dressed and eat on their own and my son tags along sometimes.

It you make a good choice to start with - it should work out. After 17 years- my wife will pack my stuff and ask - "when are you headed to camp?" or maybe 3-4 times a season its "when do we leave for camp?"

Compromise is the most important thing. A relationship is a two way street, so we guys are going to have to sacrifice some of our time, thats just part of the package.

You beat me to it!!

My girlfriend used to love the fact that I went hunting. As my wife she began to question my need for the outdoorsy stuff. With young children it got worse. "you are going again? Didn't you go last weekend for a night." As the kids have gotten older it has gotten easier. I make sure she has a full tank of gas and change in her pocket when I leave. Turns out hunting isn't as expensive as the damage she does while I'm gone!!
