I'm right at 100 names of hunters that oppose the use of mufflerless outboard motors on our state WMAs. Please keep the names, addresses and phone numbers coming. The goal is to have over 200 by the February public forum in Jackson.
As I have found out via R.L. James' post, there are laws on the books that prohibit the use of loud or mufflerless outboards and motors without spark arresters on all state owned lands and waters but is not and will not be enforced by our local conservation officers for whatever reasons.

Call his supervisor, it should be that simple. I think Terry Thomas is in charge of this part of the state but he probably has a more immediate one.

Don, where will this end is my concern. I was there opening morning and herd the boats with straight pipes. Yes your right over time this will do damage to the motor they have them on. The boat i have been using out there is loud with dual exhaust on a Gator Tail 35hp motor. However it has mufflers. A ban against straight pipes is fine with me. I have no problem with that. However making a ban on motors over 25 hp is just stupid. All you will have then is 23 hp mudbuddy's that are hopped up to 35 hp motors. Plus where you hunt you don't have to beat anyone to a hole so i could see where you wouldn't care. However, i do care and have to beat people the holes i wish to hunt.

I could care less about the size of the motor. I'm against hp restrictions on our WMA's. What I would like to stop is the trend by a few folks who think it's cool to modify a perfectly good exhaust system to intentionally make it louder. There is no benifits by doing this such a gain in horse power. The only gain is the super loudness (at least 5 times as loud as stock exhaust) of the motor that scares away every workable duck within a mile radius. If these guys like the sound of loud motors they are in the wrong sport. Maybe NASCAR or jet boat racing would be more fitting.

i disagree with the "scares every workable duck away" worked about 25 mallards and even killed a few with the exact motor running not 150 yards away....

If this is true, what is the point of another uneforceable law or restriction? Who makes the determination that the exhaust was modified, simply to cause the engine to be louder? Not real sure I fully understand your complaint.
