Year in - year out I'd say the bears have more sidewalk alums. At least they used to before they became the bears. There were a lot more rednecks willing to get behind that flag. Now the flag's gone, Dixie's gone, as well as the Colonel. Now it's just ole smokey in the grove. Man that's depressing even for a state fan.rebelduckaholic wrote:It's always funny to me how everybody calls a school out for sidewalk alumns. I mean can you really say state and ole miss don't have them.
Been called out on stats once in this thread
O snap. This ain't the place for reasoning and stats. My bad

You guys are right, I shouldn't have gone there.... But I did. The fact ofthe matter is in my opinion, you should root for the school that supports your state, whether you went there or not. I digress.

Re: Miss St. vs. BAMA
So, I've been a BAMA fan since I was in diapers. I wanted to play baseball in college and didn't have the skills to play at BAMA. So, I played elsewhere and it payed for my college. Do I get to root for BAMA on Saturdays? I just find this logic pretty unreasonable.
Good luck Saturday State, hope your boys leave the field with their chin up after the tide rolls!

Look, I got nothing to say to anyone who's been a lifelong fan of ANY team since they were a kid, or that their dad rooted for, etc. But when the fans start coming out of the woodwork immediately following a couple of national championships, those are the fans that are "fair weather" and I've got nothing for that. Same goes for the bulldogs. If you weren't a fan under Croom, but decided to hop on after Mullen's first couple seasons, I don't think you'll last.davidees wrote:You guys are right, I shouldn't have gone there.... But I did. I couldn't agree with ya more! It wasn't too long ago (94'-06') that I was one of a hand full of BAMA fans in Shelby Co., now they are everywhere...

This isn't a knock on people that didn't have the opportunity to go to college, but I "get it" if you didn't go to college but you show their allegiance to one university or another. I "get that"........what i don't understand is when you spend 4 years of your life at a University but you allegiance is with another University.rebelduckaholic wrote:It's always funny to me how everybody calls a school out for sidewalk alumns. Yep, if you don't know who Mike Shula or Dennis Franchioni is, you're probably not a true fan. As for me, I've been suffering at the hands of the Bulldogs my whole life. My Mama and Dad went college and met there in 1974. I grew up in an MSU household and that's just the way it was.RedEyed Duck wrote:Smoke68 wrote:Look, I got nothing to say to anyone who's been a lifelong fan of ANY team since they were a kid, or that their dad rooted for, etc. But when the fans start coming out of the woodwork immediately following a couple of national championships, those are the fans that are "fair weather" and I've got nothing for that. Don't forget DuBose, Perkins, Curry or the great Mike Price
Amen bro, it was a family heritage deal for me too. My mom's dad (bubba church) played a lil pro baseball and as a result knew "the bear" (not to be mistaken for the ole miss black bear) on a personal level. Granddad was asked to meet with Namath a couple of times while he was in school and threatening to leave and play pro baseball, as he and the bear butted heads quite often.
I remember starting elementary school and asking my mom why nobody else wore any BAMA stuff
Biggie, if I was gonna be there u could certainly tailgate with us just off the quad. I made the TSUN game and gotta coach some soccer this weekend

Re: Miss St. vs. BAMA
I think your analysis of Mullen's game plan is spot on. I can only hope that he will decide to "Go Big" this weekend and get a little dynamic with our play calling early. If we come out vanilla I see us going back to Starkville with mud in our eyes...Po Monkey Lounger wrote:MSU will have a difficult time putting points on the board against that Tide Defense. MSU has previously struggled to score points against defenses that don't even come close to the Tide's level. The MSU offense seems to be geared around waiting for the defense to create a turnover and short field, and then try to take advantage.
Alabama does not turn over the ball much, as McCarron tends to make good decisions --- even under pressure. This does not bode well for the MSU offense --- see above. Of course, the Tide offense does pretty much the same thing --- waits for the other team to make a mistake, then pounce on it for points.
For these reasons, I predict that this game will be pretty close on the scoreboard in the first half, with each team playing very conservative and feeling their way forward, each waiting for the other to make a critical mistake. In the second half, I think that Alabama's superior depth, halftime adjustments, and homefield advantage will allow them to pull away from MSU, perhaps enough to cover the spread. the Tide running game will open up more in the second half, and that in turn will open up the passing game. And as the Tide pulls away, Mullen will then be forced to gamble on offense, and the Tide will create some turnovers, sealing the game. That seems to be the most likely scenario.
The only way that MSU has a chance to win this game is for MSU to score early in the game -- to take the Tide out of their comfort zone and gameplan -- the Tide has only played from behind for about 15 seconds this season (and that was against the Rebels). And the only way MSU can score early in the game to take a lead is if Mullen gambles some in the first half, which comes with the risk of the Tide blowing the game open early. I think it is against Mullen's nature to do so. I think he will opt for the strategy to keep it close to give MSU a chance to win it in the second half. Mullen's "gamble" will be that his MSU D can create some turnovers in the second half that MSU can turn into points. But, by doing so, he will likely play right into the hands of the Tide.
Tide 38 MSU 10
Go DAWGS!

Things established in this thread...
1) swamprooter is terrible at analyzing college football.
2) swamprooter is terrible at associating who went to what college.
3) Never ask any questions about a teams performance one particular game even if said team did not play well and it was against a Sun Belt team.
4) Sidewalk alumni are cool. No they are not. Yes they are. No they are not. Yes they are. Group hug.
5) bigwater likes chicken and beer.
There is some good analysis about this game though.
You guys should worry less about me. MSU has a good team this year and the best we will have played so far. Should be a good one.
You're right though...this thread is the worst.
