And for the most part, the damage caused by such inevitable fires, both in terms of residential property damage, and damage to the forest itself, is preventable. The answer is better land/forest/timber management decisions and better land use decisions. But, no one wants to listen to that type of common sense. The sheep prefer to blame a boogeyman called GW, blame the govt., blame politicians, and blame pretty much everyone except the ones really responsible ---- the arsonist, the ones making the boneheaded decisions not to engage in any forest/timber management, the ones pushing the decision makers into these decisions, and the landowners for poor land use decisions.

I must tell you that Sportsman 450 warned me about attempting to have any serious discussions with the vast majority of the MS DUCKS participants due to your (A) youthful naivety and (b) disregard for science. Sadly you have proven his words true. Unlike my dear departed friend and myself, you guys dont know what duck hunting used to be like in the Delta so you have no frame of reference. Most of you didnt hunt ducks in the 60s or 70s nor did your dads hunt them in the 40s and 50s.

As for continuing this thread, sorry I am out of time. Gun season opens in less than 72 hours and with only 4 does down and no shooter bucks seen, I have work to do. I'm sure you will keep up your plaintive protests but the jury (IE SUPREME COURT) has spoken and big money is lining up to fight GW with or without you. Keep your heads in the sand or up your arses for all I care. I have just unchecked the "Notify" box and wont be back anytime soon.

My family has lived and hunted in the delta(Ruleville) since before WWI, my grandfather, father, and myself, have all witnessed the changes, and do have a frame of reference for comparison. GW will never alter/effect the flyway like the conversion of timber to agriculture land has. The freeze line is further north(Memphis-Cairo, Missouri now) and the increase in hunters, therefore pressure, and lack of most of the habitat my grandfather and father enjoyed are arguably the most substantial issues affecting my hunting. The weather patterns are influencing the birds. When I can't go to Fighting Bayou and kill a limit of mallards from Christmas day on, there is a problem. May have been an isolated incident, we'll see this year, but the weather is a huge factor. You have to weed through the political bullcrap to try and synthesize the reality of the research. I have a degree in political science, and I still have trouble in doing this. That being said, nature has an inherent capability of lending clues to our surroundings. The birds' flight patterns are changing, draw your own conclusions. I'm not trying to argue to what degree this flyway that flyway how and why, but the facts are there. It is happening, maybe not to the extent some would have you believe, but there are changes occurring. It's time to stop argueing and start looking for answers. I don't think anyone has a definitive answer to what is happening or what exactly will stop it.
