Please dont believe all this hoopla portrayed by the media. Its been hot before and its been cold before. I bet 200 years ago when the "Polar Ice Caps were receding" cause it got a little warm round here, Mankind wasn't smart enough to monitor it. Everything fixed itself, and froze back up cause everything cooled off round here, and now Mankind is able to monitor the ice caps and Geeks with too much brains are acting like we have caused this in the last 100 years.

California brush/forest fires caused primarily due to poor, if any, forest/timber management practices. Instead, due to the enviro whackoos, they practice what they call "preservation", which really means doing nothing. Thus, the forests become too thinck and congested, have too much tinder on floor due to no prescribed burns, and have insufficient, if any, fire breaks or lanes. It is a situation ripe for a large forest fire, regardless of the source of ignition --- man or nature. In this case, it was believed to be arsonists. Add in the stronger than normal, but periodic recurring, "santa anna" winds of 80+mph and you have the conditions for trouble.

But, this isn't the entire story. Due to residential property development next to, within, and near these vast unmanaged forests, the risk of property damage from the inevitable fires is high --virtually a foregone conclusion. Just a matter of time.

Nature will find a way to prune its forests and do the thinning and clearing of the forest floor, if man won't. Such has been going on since before any of us or our ancestors were even born. IT has absolutely nothing to do with alleged GW.

And for the most part, the damage caused by such inevitable fires, both in terms of residential property damage, and damage to the forest itself, is preventable. The answer is better land/forest/timber management decisions and better land use decisions. But, no one wants to listen to that type of common sense. The sheep prefer to blame a boogeyman called GW, blame the govt., blame politicians, and blame pretty much everyone except the ones really responsible ---- the arsonist, the ones making the boneheaded decisions not to engage in any forest/timber management, the ones pushing the decision makers into these decisions, and the landowners for poor land use decisions.

But lets forget the scientists for a minute...As hunters, what is nature telling you? The Atlantic Flyway has largely disappeared, the Mississippi Flyway is very different now relative to the decades my great granddaddy, granddaddy and father hunted it and yet you guys find any possible shred of BS to hang your hat on that either (A) the Earth is not getting warmer (B) CO2 is not the cause or is a symptom not a cause and (C) that even if A and B are true, Mankind is not the culprit...All in the face of unbelievable scientific evidence to the contrary as affirmed by the right wing US Supreme Court...

I must tell you that Sportsman 450 warned me about attempting to have any serious discussions with the vast majority of the MS DUCKS participants due to your (A) youthful naivety and (b) disregard for science. Sadly you have proven his words true. Unlike my dear departed friend and myself, you guys dont know what duck hunting used to be like in the Delta so you have no frame of reference. Most of you didnt hunt ducks in the 60s or 70s nor did your dads hunt them in the 40s and 50s.
In other words, you aint been around.

As for continuing this thread, sorry I am out of time. Gun season opens in less than 72 hours and with only 4 does down and no shooter bucks seen, I have work to do. I'm sure you will keep up your plaintive protests but the jury (IE SUPREME COURT) has spoken and big money is lining up to fight GW with or without you. Keep your heads in the sand or up your arses for all I care. I have just unchecked the "Notify" box and wont be back anytime soon.

Well I haven't posted on this topic, but, will way in here. My 16 year old daugher came home today all worked up over the world ending as we know it due to global warming. I asked her what had her panties all bunched up and she said they watched a film about it in school today that had, you guessed it, Al Gore in it. She said it was all corporate Amercia's fault and conservative Republicans not caring about the environment. We are all going to Hell in a hand cart. She ended by saying that Gore also should have won the election. She was 10 when Gore lost and her biggest concern at that time was when and where her next Barbie doll was coming from.

Where do I begin to argue this? She was taught this at school, history class mind you, and it therefore must be true no matter what I have to say. Every point I attempted to make she countered with the lines from the movie. Absolutely pathetic.

I thought about going nuclear and asking the school why they are wasting valuable instruction time to politically indoctrinate my child. However, it would be an exercies in futility.

You need to get another story. You have said this multiple times, you are as wrong about global warming as you are about the Atlantic Flyway. I hunt the Atlantic Flyway and it has not disappeared.

My family has lived and hunted in the delta(Ruleville) since before WWI, my grandfather, father, and myself, have all witnessed the changes, and do have a frame of reference for comparison. GW will never alter/effect the flyway like the conversion of timber to agriculture land has. The freeze line is further north(Memphis-Cairo, Missouri now) and the increase in hunters, therefore pressure, and lack of most of the habitat my grandfather and father enjoyed are arguably the most substantial issues affecting my hunting. The weather patterns are influencing the birds. When I can't go to Fighting Bayou and kill a limit of mallards from Christmas day on, there is a problem. May have been an isolated incident, we'll see this year, but the weather is a huge factor. You have to weed through the political bullcrap to try and synthesize the reality of the research. I have a degree in political science, and I still have trouble in doing this. That being said, nature has an inherent capability of lending clues to our surroundings. The birds' flight patterns are changing, draw your own conclusions. I'm not trying to argue to what degree this flyway that flyway how and why, but the facts are there. It is happening, maybe not to the extent some would have you believe, but there are changes occurring. It's time to stop argueing and start looking for answers. I don't think anyone has a definitive answer to what is happening or what exactly will stop it.

I love how the founder of the Weather Channel has come out a publicly let everyone know that the theory that humans are causing global warming is the biggest scam, political or otherwise, ever created. He went in more detail to back up his statement, but I think his reputation stands for itself.
