Am I reading it correctly to understand that the $5 fee is assessed for each WMA and for each application period? So if you (not saying that anyone actually would) applied for each app period for each WMA it would cost $5 * 7 WMAs * 5 app periods = $175 potential for every individual that chooses to participate? Seems to be that there is a lotta potential funds to be made from these changes for sure if that's the case. And if so, are these funds to be used solely for upkeep and management of WMAs or will they be lumped into a general fund for other uses?

Best Fair solution for the whole damn thing....cut out predraw, stanby only and charge EVERYONE $5 each day ..usage is covered ,money is covered (and more of it), and fair across the board for the ones who are willing to do the work of scouting and wanting to hunt more than acouple hunts a yr.....with the "preference points system" its gona get worse on chances of being drawn...

That question was asked at the meeting in Vicksburg. It goes back to the WMA’s but not that specific WMA. The more utilized WMA’s help prop up the less used ones.

I went to the meeting in Tupelo last night and was impressed by the initiative the MDWFP is showing. It was said very well by the head of wildlife in the beginning that you may not agree with what they are doing but at least you will understand why they are doing what they are doing.
With that said very few duck hunters were there. Mine was the only duck question addressed. Believe it or not most of the questions were about hog hunting of all things. There is a push by those who run dogs in this area to promote hog hunting. The state kept going back to the point that they are not promoting hog hunting as a sport. I don't think some of these guys heard that though.
Toward the end it turned into a yelling match with some pretty outlandish accusations. The most outlandish was that the state was turning the WMA system into their own personal hunting club because the state could trap hogs but the public couldn't. Therefore, the state wasn't really serious about addressing the hog problem.

Lord have mercy. I graduated high school in that neck of the woods, Chickisaw county, I bet it was a real show.
There is no duck hunting to speak of in that part of the state. Deer hunting sucks, and the hogs do provide some sport, so there is nothing you could say about that meeting that would suprise me.

That was my argument that night too...see where that got us
Big question is this, with the predisposed ranking of the draw...what is this "buddy system" bs the guy was talking about where we can put another person on our draw app.
How in the hell is that going to work?

I'm with Bigdawg's/Booger's logic...75% of predraws never showed up. The new scheme and $5 a pop ain't gonna solve that, might help a little. Heck Wed.s were all standy anyway. The only good thing about this crap was the sectioning of the duck holes (some more could be worked in if knotheadedness could be solved...see signature). I used to love the "field" and managed the crowds; it's a big place. When the caps start popping anywhere on the place could be good w/calling, setup, concealment. You pull up behind 10 trucks and people in the wide open; whata you expect, Shesh! Oh well, me and son/law didn't even go up there last year when the standby crowds got bigger.. La. marsh is gonna be our alternative...Gonna miss the fat heads... I'm sure makes some happy to hear this, FU. Progress, I guess. Impeach Sam Poles. Whata you expect, I haven't been to my local state lakes in 3 yrs. after they screwed them up. It ain't the local COs/Area Man.s fault; it's seems it's policies and directions from the top that are flawed. I hate to put the biologists with the bad guys but if the shoe fits wear it! Don't understand all the meetings...gonna do what they want anyway. $.02 which is about what it's worth nowadays from any of us.... Later DL
