Spoonie, I just re-read your post. It says that you hunted with Rob for two years. Well if you didn't pay for the hunts, then what in the hell are you fussin about the price for.
Well I ain't never heard anybody fuss about about getting a free hunt, til now.

I don't know what drinking at DU events has to do with the price of a dove hunt, but $75.00 a hunt in a well-done sunflower field is a bargain and alot cheaper than doing your own.

Wingman,
I was about to write a long drawn out defense of South Delta's DU Dinner, but I have a better shorter version. If you don't like to be near anyone who may have a drink DON"T SHOW UP FOR THAT EVENT!

Dan, I know who wrote the Bible, and I'm not gonna rely on some mainstream, liberal tv program to tell me otherwise. I've seen some of those programs, and they hit and miss on the Truth and what they can "prove" to have happened. Do you think that the History channel would condemn the serving of alcohol at DU and DW banquets? Certainly not, because it's not a popular belief.
I also watched a program the other night where a hospital was doing studies on how prayer affected patients. Sounded good at first, until they mentioned that the prayer groups consisted of Muslims, Buddhists and Christians throughout the world. You see, you can't mix and match religion.
Modern day ministry? The Bible isn't modern day and what I quoted backs up my argument.
Yea, gadwall, sometimes, alot of times what comes out of my mouth is the wrong way to say things. That's one of my many faults. I didn't start this post expecting everyone to chime in and say "You're right...we'll stop serving alcohol at once." I didn't mean to make you all think that the "social" drinker is a drunk, and I never said that. That's the same idea that all gun owners are murders.
If you drink or don't drink, it won't affect how I feel about you. Does that mean I think I'm better than you? Certainly not. We all have faults. But by pointing out that something is wrong does not mean I have decided those of you that do it are worthless or lower than I. If I only chose to surround myself with people that didn't drink, I wouldn't be surrounded by many. If my friends chose to surround themselves with people that didn't lose their temper, or were jealous at times of others or never had an impure thought or action, then they wouldn't see me in their crowd because I've done all of those things.
Spoonie, why are we discussing the price of a dove hunt here? What do you suggest, that I charge enough to break even? Even then some would complain that is too much. Email me with your real name and your phone number and we'll talk all you want.

Wingman, you certainly are not stupid and are to be commended for sticking to your beliefs. I can see where you might have ruffled some feathers with your choice of words, although I'm sure you did not set out with that intention. Just a combination of your words and their interpretation.
I do not think a social drink is wrong (IMO). I don't want to argue whether or not I'm going to Heaven or Hell if I have an occasional drink. That won't be the deciding factor as to whether or not any of us go to Heaven or Hell (IMO) !!!!!
These DU / DW events can serve or not serve alcohol, its totally their choice, as well as its someones choice to go or not go. Someone mentioned in a post, these events w/alcohol are like casino's, they know if they can get you to drink then you are more likely to loose your cognitive thinking and give them your $$$.
My only problem is the fact that several people associated with these events are openly bragging about taking advantage of people thru the alcohol served. What did one post say, something to the effect of,
"I've seen people spend their rent money at events like this"
If I was an organizer I certainly would be proud of that statement, NOT.
If serving alcohol helps to raise $$$ then fine, go for it. But you won't be getting my $$$, I wouldn't attend your event for this reason alone. I'll sit at home or camp and have a drink with my true friends and huntng buddies. I'm smarter than that.

I'm coming in so late on this it may be a waste of time but Wingman you ain't stupid just ignorant.
This is why I've never been to a banquet
No sin in being uninformed, (Is There?).
Gosh, there's an awful lot of conclusions drawn by a feller that ain't even been to one. I'd say you oughta try a "wet" banquet then compare it to one of the dry banquets some other folks have posted up about. Before now, did you even know that some banquets were "dry"?
Life today is way more entangled than in the year 0001 A.D. Some of the various taxes that you pay go to things that Christians would never condone while some of the booze & sin taxes go for things Christians readily accept. You still pay those taxes though, and you still accept the benefits of the sin taxes that others pay. How do you resolve this within your narrow philosophy?
Unless you're gonna live in international ocean waters on your own boat, grin, bear it and vote.
I'm sure you patronize places that sell alcohol but since folks take it away and drink it off the premises, okie dokie? or not okie-dokie?
Now, as to the specifics of Banquets:
Objective: Raise as much money as possible.
Dry Banquets= 90% Flop
Wet Banquets=Cha-ching
If you can come up with a consistent plan that achieves the objective using a lubrication other than booze, step up and tell us all about. Until that item manifest's itself, resolve it within.
