they were taken new years day in monroe county.. near buttatachoutie..
thanks for the invite. too bad all the ducks came at once.. i was hoping that they'd come in small pairs..
Yeah, me too. I can't believe they came back to water at 12:30 that day. I was about ready to pick-up. Just never know when they'll show-up huh? Some folks sit in the same spot all year waiting for a moment like that. 'Makes puttin'-out that 300-decoy spread in the pilot channel well worth it, huh? We'll do it again, sometime. Maybe it won't be another 12 years when they show-up unexpectedly, again.

I'm watching the weather - not likely to get 'right' til Halloween, but can be on the road within 24 hours. Everything should break loose in the NWT the last week of October so I'm looking at meeting the mass exodus in SK during the next 2 weeks following that weather event. You don't want to get there too late and take a chance on getting frozen-out, but we don't want to get there too early ahead of the big push, either. That's when you get the full benefit of witnessing the mass migration. We've been lucky on the timing, so far. It's always a gamble on the timing. Two years ago, a big front came through the last week we were there and we watched the birds leave in a span of 24 hours - they over-flew the Dakotas that year. Now that's a cold front! When I stopped for gas in Minot, it was the same temperature as it was when we left Saskatoon 8 hours earlier. I told my wife I wasn't sure we were headed the right direction because it wasn't getting any warmer the farther South we went. Wednesday is supposed to be the coldest yet 17/35 (low/high), followed by a few days of 23/41. That'll get some birds moving and put some in the area we hunt, but that's just a little 'nudge'. It'll warm back up and those will gorge themselves until the next push comes along......maybe we'll hit it right, again. We haven't gotten 'bombed' (duck poop

) in a blowing snow in a couple of years.......maybe this is the year.

Perty realistic, huh? That's a special affects button on my camera........where I can over-dub one image over several others while filming. That's actually 5 different frames. One duck sittingwas what I was actually filming, two landing at separate times, a landscape shot in Africa in 1976, and 2 shell decoys photoshopped from G&H's web page were all over-dubs from my wireless internet connection in a SK pea field.
Missed Mallards - I hate it, too.......but everybody has to have something to look forward to, eh? You always telling me about puttin' the smack on greenheads, when all I'm seeing is the 4 walls of the 'Delta Sands'

.......(make that 3 walls and one window view of the campus security building)........and I'm just 30 minutes from your duckhole. I'd say we're 'bout even, wouldn't you?
