I just had a dog that tested positive at 3 years old she had been tested every year till last year and the vet wanted to start testing her every 6 months. I noticed that she had a shortness of breath at the dog challange and decided to have her checked at 5 nomths and she came back positive. She has never missed a treatment or test. The vet recommend that we get xrays of her lungs to see if there was a problem. She has already developed some type of infection that we started treating that day. What the vet did was started treatment on her the next day which they keep her all day then they wanted her back the following Monday and they will keep her from Monday till Thursday. Then after a month she will go back for another week then slowly over the next 3 months go back to normal routine. She was on Heartguard and they will pay for it all. My vet recommended that double up on my meds and for me to do heartguard and something else. Heartguard went back and checked all my records not only just for that dog but all my others as well. I could have not asked for better service under the conditions my vet is Animal Medical in Cleveland and they have been great. They also told me that my dog made the 3rd case or break through for the week.

Found out yesterday that Heartguard is paying for the full treatment for my dachshund. At least they are taking responsibility, but you have to have all of your documents showing that the dog has had 2 negative tests and have given heartguard each month. Luckily, my vet maintains their records.

Its a pain for sure ,,,,my vet had to fax them 23 pages on Aspen ,,,from her first 6 week shot until 8 years old with 7 negative test before this last one . I hope she takes the teatment ok being 8 years old . She starts her's on tuesday

Good luck to you. I cannot even tell my dog has had her 1st treatment, but she is 4. I am having a hard time trying to keep her from running and trying to play. She hates being in that kennel, but that is the only way to keep her calm.

Vet told me that the dog was going to feel normal through the whole process. The hard part was going to be keeping them calm where they will throw a blood clot.
