Definition - OOS- Out Of Staters. There, didn't know OOS'rs could mean something else.
Anyhow, to answer your question, No it is not just OOS'rs. My point to the whole thing is it's the Fockers with tons of money that come in and lease your hole out from under you, only to hunt it 2 or 3 times a year!! NOT the true duck hunters that would hunt it 2-3 times a WEEK even for 3 ducks. Now, would that piss me off if they did it, yes, BUT, not like it would if some doctor or lawyer came in and only hunted it 2 or 3 times a year, or only 1 week a year!!! THAT is what has always happened to me!!!!

THAT, Is what we are all talking about! Don't flatter yourself OOS'rs, I'm sure ya'll don't shoot THAT well to hurt the duck #'s!!! It's that fact that the duck hole price's have gone SKY HIGH!
I for one AM NOT one of the people that shoot a hole up, In any hole I've ever had, I've NEVER hunted more than 3-4 days a week and NEVER after noon!! If I've hunted in the afternoon it was on public land or someother spot other than mine!
I'll be honest with you, I've never met a rude OOS'r, and I'm sure I never will, I couldn't imagine someone coming over to my state and being Jackarss! I would not suggest coming over here if you are. Might not make for a good trip if you know what I mean!
One question for all of you OOS'rs, and ANSWER HONESTLY!!!!! Would you drive 9 hours to come hunt MS for a 3 duck limit????????
HONEST ANSWERS ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Four hours for me not nine, and yes I would and yes I have. All the way back to the point system, then 3 duck, then not shooting until sunup, all the way to 6/60. I spend every weekend of duck season in your state and would would do it regardless of the amount of birds.
And about everyone complaining about the prices of leases (ojw), it is just supply and demand, simple economics in a free market....you know America.
Anyway sorry I helped get this argument started, just sick of hearing all the OOS complaints. Everyone needs to get ready finally got some weather north of us, we need one more push of fresh ducks for the last two weeks. Good luck to all.

Being from Alabama, I would drive 3.5 - 4 hours for a three duck limit. It's not always about getting a limit. I enjoy hanging out with my buddy's. I enjoy working ducks. In fact, a three duck limit would probably influence out of stater's to take their time and select the duck they are after, rather than shooting at the first duck that comes in, because they think they have to get a six bird limit. Whether it is a greenie, pintail, redhead, etc, etc. If I am after a particular duck, I am selective on the one I am after. I know some guys who just want to shoot a duck, and get to a limit, just to say they limited.

hunting
that is what most of the ones i met have done . i would rather see them ask me to find us a place then driving mine up high as camel's ass. was in the process of renewing my lease and my landowner told me that he had been offered 2 times my amount of 10k on my place and it was out of staters and he just told them about it and they said we will give you twice that to get it so there it is . he actually let them go one day and they went to our place and hunted all afternoon and i was pissssed!

OJW, Please don't tell me you are paying $10,000 for a hole, If you are, it better be around 1000 acres!!!, even if your paying $5000 for a hole, it STILL better be aroun 400-500 acres, AINT no way, I'd let those fockers have it!! Aint worth that unless it's your CAMP and there's 5-10 people in it!!!!

But, a mere 20 years later, it apparently isn't even cool to wear panties anymore...so maybe things will come around....
I don't really expect much for the future of duck hunting, except the one thing I can help control, our right to hunt...as long as there is a duck season I imagine I will be content, at least somewhat.
I'm not sure I understand the parallel between duck hunting and dove hunting, except that for the most part to have a decent dove hunt you have to pay. And it seems to me that the closer a field is to being illegal the better the success rate. I hope that neither trend is echoed in duck hunting. Even though I lease property, it would still be a tragic loss to have hunters lose access to public lands on which they could have a good hunt.
Panties not best thing on earth! But next to best thing on earth.

I've been driving 8hrs all year for 3 ducks total for the weekend. And even if that is all I kill for the rest of the season then I still will come and hunt. It's all about the experience. Maybe I got one of those crappy spots that you guys are talking about but I did not lease it out from under anybody and never would. Duck hunting is what I am after not to drive the price up on anyone. If someone is going just so they can say they killed a limit of ducks then I agree they are not duck hunters but I don't believe adjusting the limit is going to remedy the problem then people will just drive to kill a limit of 3 so they can say they did. To them a limit is a limit no matter what the number is.

Chhayah, I've been told and heard NUMEROUS time, "Aint no way I'll go wast my time for 3 ducks". I've heard that statment from more than 3 or 4 Doctors and lawyers. But guess what, they are hunting them now with a limit of 6 and paying WAY more than what we used to pay when the limit was 3!! Heck, with a limit of 3 we usually didn't have to pay ANYTHING! Just ask and take care of the place!

well if you guys know of some leases (good leases) then please let me know. me and some friends are looking. i have a friend going over there this weekend and might be looking at a few spots that lipsplitter has. i'm going over there the last weekend. any help would be great. and when i say leases i mean leases/clubs what ever and where ever around central or north ms. thanks
No Docs or Liars in our club, just good ole southern boys. I was in a lease out there that got overhunted. I'ld driven by this place for 2 seasons and never saw anyone hunting. I found the farmer, introduced myself and worked out a deal.
Now, let's look at this another way. Why not get pissed at the farmer who leased the land out from under you? I had some MS boys find out I was getting that lease and offered the farmer $2k more than what we had agreed on. He told them we'ld already shaken on the deal and sorry. Now he could've taken the deal - no monies had exchanged hands - just a hand shake.
Oh yeah, someone in the lease is out their about every weekend or during the week. We don't hunt past noon and don't hunt the same blind consecutively. We only drive on the dikes - never in the fields. We bring gifts from south Ga. to the landowners and the people we lease the house from. We invite them over for dinner. They take care of us and we try to take care of them. Just good Southern hospitality!
By the way, we lost a dove field this year to Florida hunters who bought the farmer out. No hard feelings here though - I'll work harder to be able to but my own land one day. I'ld never lease something out from under someone - not intentionally anyway.
Pintail - As stated before - I'ld lease even if they closed the season - just to be able to have it the next year. This was discussed last year at the beginning of season. Now thats not to say I still wouldn't still come out there. There's no way in hades I'ld let the wife know what I did. She'ld kill me. I'ld just buy some pen raised ducks on the way home to take back.
