M2-3201 says:

Possession of non-game wildlife from Mississippi populations for personal use.
(1) No person shall possess more than a total of 20 non-game reptiles......of the 20 non-game reptiles that may be possessed, no more than four (4) can be of the same species or subspecies.

If there are 85 cottonmouths in that picture...looks to me like he is facing 81 counts of over limit of non-game reptiles. At about $150 bucks per count, it might be a record....a $12,150 record.

I think that it's wrong. Yep - I hate cotton mouths. Those snakes have obviously been holing up there for years. Winter dens are a must have for snakes. The concentration freaks me out but at the same time it's part of nature.

Now - I have blasted more damn snakes than I care to admit....anyone ever shot turtles for no reason? Yep we have all done it and grow out of it when we realize that there is more to this world than just us.

I still don't like snakes and may have popped a few but then a light bulb would have gone off when I saw 300. I would have called the GW to come see the snakes and let them determine what was the right thing to do.

Regardless - that's a bunch of snakes.

Buy some Gokeys folks and I would start thinking of a lawyer's name....something tells me that these folks are going to get a visit for this one.

If it wasn't for bad luck then i would have no luck at all........

I grew up running the trails up and down the Pearl River and on Kings Point Island. I never was attacked by a wad of snakes. There is a greater probability that you will get hit by an asteroid than there is of being bitten by 300 cottonmouths.

The first thing that you teach your kid is to yell SNAKE and run to get an adult. Trust me, the fear is instinctive.

I agree on this one, it is a part of nature.....if you kill 300 this year then there will be 300 more next year.....let's face it guys your not gonna get rid of 'em no matter how hard you try.....

now don't get me wrong.. If I see a big one on my pond and I have a gun near by then I will probably... no I will kill it, BUT I expect to see them every time I go fishin...and I almost never carry a gun this time of year unless I'm huntin birds.

if you shot everyone that was on that trail just think about how many you didn't see...you probably didn't even touch'em...

As far as jbk87 goes if I see one in my yard he's dead but if your tryin to cut down the population then give up guys.....it aint gonna happen...what's the difference in killin 30 and 300 when it comes to that.

once again not sayin I wouldn't do it, but don't sit there and and think that your really makin a difference.

To make another point I wish someone would look up the thread that we had on here about a year or two ago and see how much the dynamics of this site has changed. MSDuckmen might even want to chime in.....

P.S. I hate snakes more than anyone on this earth, but if I see them first then its OK. What I hate to see is someone taking advantage of any natural resource.. go ahead and kill one when you see it if it makes you feel better, but don't go just to hunt them for fun... the Bible also has a verse or two about glutony(spp?) which might fit into this category.

I have stared down some scary things in my life...but nothing shakes me up as bad as a big ole cottonmouth up close and personal! I am hard to scare, but I am sho nuff skeered of those thangs!

The most crap-in-your-pants kind of scared I've ever been was when a big-as-your-arm cottonmouth slap-dab took a frog gig away from me one night on a pond out in Yazoo County when I was a chap at Holmes. That thing reared up out of the water and was flat after me! I was backing up and pokin at that thang with that gig fast as I could. I finally stuck it pretty good and it started twisting that gig almost out of my hands. I stuck that thing as hard as i could down in the mud and left it right there!

If any of you boys out near Midway find an old rotten gig still stuck in the bank of a pond, that was one more scared country boy who left it there. I'm glad there ain't none of those blasted thangs over here in north GA where I live and hunt most days now. That may be the only thing I dread about coming back home to retire!

I had bad dreams last night after seeing all those suckers!

A friend of mine was bitten twice on the hand by a copperhead at the age of 3. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
