Greenville was lowered to 59.5' on Jan 14th. Vicksburg's still the same crest/date.

Good news. If the rain will hold off this might not be as bad as expected. Hopefully it'll get real cold up north so the precipitation is snow and will run-off later after this water has passed.Wildfowler wrote:Another downward revision just now.

Re: Big River headed up..........
I'm not sure where you heard that, but the Lower MS 28 day forecast issued last week (that had the crest on the 15th, not 14th, at vicksburg showed that about 3 or 4 days after the crest it'd be falling around 1 foot per day for the next 4 or 5 days. Probably longer but it's only a 28 day forecast.msbigdawg1234 wrote:From what I heard the river is posed to fall fast.. 3-5 ft day.. that will be as destructive as anything if that happens

Here is your answer.RDB wrote:I wonder if this will pertain to hog hunting too? I know it states any wild animal but with them being such a nuisance I would think MDWFP would allow it.

My question
How are all the thousands of hunters suppose to be told hunting has not stopped west of hwy 61? A lot of people have questioned this and been wondering bc they haven't been contacted or seen it anywhere. I was unaware till I saw this thread also.

The levees get saturated, when the river drops fast the water wants to bleed back out of the levee slope............it causes slope failures or slides.davidees wrote:Explain this to me please. This is going to happen anyway, there is nothing you can do about it and its part of maintenance to go back after the water reseeds and rework the slopes.

Levi127,
A good question you ask. The law is a longstanding one, but one that rarely has to be enforced during deer/duck/small game seasons, so you don't hear much about it. The MDWFP hits all the regular news sources (newspaper, TV, radio, etc.) with press releases plus FaceBook, Twitter, and the MDWFP web site. Word of mouth spreads this type of news quick. When the forecast came out of going above the flood stages for all the reference points, hunters started calling the MDWFP Jackson office trying to separate fact from fiction.
Thanks,
