Your wife is carried on your insurance, now the same will be true for anyone that is married. Churches and businesses that refuse to serve the gay community will be sued. What happens to the military? Openly gay now? This is just the tip of the iceberg, and there will be nowhere in our society that will not be affected. Just another enormous distraction.
What does it matter if insurance covers someones gay partner? They are far less likely to have 5, 6, 7 kids to cover under insurance as well.

This is supposed to be a FREE country, and because CHRISTIAN religion doesn't believe in gay marriage why should someone thats NOT Christian, not be allowed to marry the person they love? Why should YOUR religion keep someone else from marrying? Who are we to tell someone they can't be with them. It doesn't affect you ONE BIT, so quit acting like this is the end of the world. Fire and Brimstone aren't coming because we allowed gays to marry.

If you want me to be honest, the more and more you hear about dirty preachers and "Men of God" that are exposed for child molestation and everything else, are gays really the thing to worry about?

Find something else to focus your concerns on, the world is moving forward, stop being stuck in the 1960's, and move forward with the rest of the world instead of being left behind. The Bible Belt, with all its Christian Bible Thumping Good Ole Boys, we have the highest obesity, the highest teen pregnancy, and the highest STD ratings in the country. If fire and brimstone is what you want, its coming here first.

I can almost guarantee that most of you have met someone thats gay, and didn't know it and thought they were a stand-up individual.

Sab316, you might want to do some research and see what demographic is responsible for most of the teen pregnancies and STDs. Nothing the good ole boys can do about that. You say it is a free country but you want to silence anyone who disagrees with you. Can't have it both ways. BTW, since you are not a Christian, what are you?

I am a Christian, but I'm in the mind that we should let people do what they want. Why should I as a Christian, determine if someone can get married? Man to man, man to woman, woman to woman. Who am I to tell someone they can't be happy, especially if they aren't a Christian.

I'm not saying they need to be silenced, they have every right to voice their opinion and I'm voicing mine as they are. I'm just contradicting the popular "We're all going to hell cause them gays can marry!" And I've seen just as many white girls with babies as blacks.

Could you enlighten me? Is there a religion that believes in gay marriage?

Not all Episcopalians, mostly East coast.
Churches here in the South separated from the LIBs up North, years ago.

It's been that way for a few years. They got rid of 'Don't ask...don't tell".

His argument has nothing to do with there being a particular religion that's "okay" with gay marriage. Some folks don't believe in god!  Are atheists not allowed to be married, or are gay atheists the only ones forbidden in your book? What about gay Christians?

To play devils advocate here, one of the main gripes is that it's a bond through God. If the two people aren't obeying God's word (ie/ are gay) its a big deal to some folks. But what about heterosexual atheists getting married because they want an official ceremony, but don't actually believe in God. What's the difference? Are we going to ban atheist marriage?

People are SOOOOO fixated on the supposed "gay agenda", they can't just live their own lives. Guess what people? There's no such thing as a "gay agenda", other than them wanting to be afforded the same rights given to straight people. They aren't trying to "turn people gay". You know why (and this is something EVERY gay person already knows)? IT'S NOT A CHOICE! Get over it people! Geeeez.

Duramax, why do you call non gay people "straight"? The opposite of straight is crooked. Kind of looks like you are implying that there is something wrong with being gay? Why call non gay people straight?

His comment does imply that only Christians are opposed to gay marriage weather his argument is wholly based on it or not. And because the concept of marriage is rooted in religion, not law.

So you bring atheists into it, why do they want their union to be a recognized religious activity, but not care about the rest of the belief system? To be honest, I don't understand why they want to be "married" in the first place. Marriage to me is a religious commitment to my wife and God. So, in my eyes, if you don't believe in God, then make the promise to your person and be done with it. Does the approval of any church, state, or just people in general really matter? Is the issue not having a legal heir in the eyes of the state? Or is it tax benefits that require you to call it marriage? Does a civil union not accomplish the same thing with out bastardizing the religious context of marriage?

I personally have lots more questions on this subject than I have answers. What I do have is an opinion, and it is that a state sanctioned union between two people, that is not recognized by a religious body, is not marriage. That is, pretty much by definition, a civil union. Call a spade a spade and leave the religion out of it, and this wouldn't be as big a deal.

It's a colloquial term created by gay culture to describe hetero people, not the other way around.

Excellent point. I mentioned that a couple days ago:
Marriage, as many do define it, is through their god. However, marriage was around long before Judeo-Christian definition. It was just before the english language was around. Marriage as a definition is combining two things together. Thus translating well into being the Hebrew word for marriage when relating to two married people. English does not have the breadth of words to define something that other languages do. The most common analogy is that Hebrew has many different words that English just lumps into the one word 'love'. Thus the gov't uses the word 'Marriage' when it comes to legal civil unions between a heterosexual couple since the beginning, even though it might have taken place at city hall and wasn't a religious ceremony.
It's nothing more than the English language not having enough words, thus having to share words to describe similar things. Are we going to change this and create a new term? Imagine that headache when you ask someone if they are married: "No, I am Civil-Unioned, not married".

How about every medical or tax form you fill out:

1) Single
2) Married
3) Civil-Unioned
4) Married-divorced
5) Civil-Unioned-divorced.

Marriage is just a word. What it means to YOU may be different from someone else. So be it.

For those that call themselves "Christian" and are supportive of "homosexual marriage" please take a long hard look at the questions listed here. There may not be a dam thing we can do about a reckless government that is bound and determined to remove God from anything attached to society, but that doesn't mean it's right and it doesn't mean Christians have to accept it. If it's not scriptural, then it's not of God.
