But they can swing buying a new WMA for $3k/ac -- that no one can even set foot on to squirrel hunt if they wanted. Gag.

Wingman is the only State CO I ever hear anybody seeing.

I'm pretty sure I know which one Quack is talking about, and he's retired for health reasons.

I may be wrong, but it just doesn't seem like they've replaced most of the ones that no longer work.

Honestly, we are about 11 officers short in the Delta alone, 8 of those vacancies are in the south Delta. You could put 20 officers a day in the Forest and still not cover it all. Every time I go to the Forest I get a trespassing/road hunting/late shooting call in Humphreys county. There's just no way to cover it all. I've been to the Forest three times this year. I was down there today and found 3 bait piles in about an hour. Been spending a little time at Lake George the last few weeks. Sharkey County has a game warden and he patrols the forest all the time. He's done a lot of good this last year.

Alright boys! South delta is open for business! J/K wingman gave me a tazer and deputized the crew, so...better hide them greenheads and the filthy whores. I'm patrolling DNF and Roy's around lunch time til the end January. Face paintin' flat bills beware!

Who is the game warden

You're right on this. A lot of people don't realize that Sharkey county only has 1 deputy on duty during the week and 2 on the weekend. That's covering all 435 square miles. We used to have way more game wardens on duty than deputies. There are as many officers on duty in Anguilla on a given night as in the Forest.

I don't guess most people know who this game warden is - but I'll ask the one that commutes from here. But you're so right - 1 game warden is about a tenth of what they used to have and probably about a thirtieth of what they need.

Not sure why anyone would complain about Leo presence on these places? The more of a presence they have the better people act as far as etiquette and being responsible/respectful. When there is a heavy presence, usually after the officers have checked you a couple times and you are respectful then when they cross paths with you again, it usually turns into just a conversation and nothing more. It's not like they are coming in harassing people during hunts unless someone is in the wrong.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

Opening weekend of squirrel season is a whole other category. It's like a convention or something. I don't mind LEO's, I have no reason to, but when you can't go to Holly Bluff to get some ice without going through your third roadblock of the day and having to get out of your truck and have all your stuff gone through, pulled out, and strewn about when you're not even hunting or in transit to or from...it's a bit annoying.

Maybe you shouldn't look so guilty! But like Rob said. We could easily stand 8 down here right now and they still couldn't cover it all.

Maybe I should start another thread about this but why are there so few GW's in the state? We have property in Alabama and it is a whole different ball game over there. The county we have property in has four full time GW's. We are lucky to have one per county over here. We badly need more.

I've never understood that line of reasoning. Yeah, I had that attitude when I was young. I also ended up with over 60 moving violations in 6 states over 5 years, even been in slammer on more occasions than I'd like to admit. So I know what it means to f ug up. But being a dick to the cops just makes things more difficult than they need to be. Of course there are some awhole cops but I've found its best just go with flow and get on with my life. Case in point, (not that this guy was a d!ck, quite the contrary) I was pulled over in madison while building a retaining wall not so long ago. Cop pulled me over in Lowe's parking lot for not wearing a seatbelt and (I'm guessing) an Oktibbeha tag. Next thing you know it's looking like the SWAT team surrounding my truck. Camo BDU's, sunglasses, assault vests with all manner of paraphernalia and whatnot. Guy was nice but I thought a bit overkill for little ole me. They asked if "I took responsibility for everything in the truck" and permission to search. Sure man, ain't no shame in my my game. Half gallon of rum and 30-30 behind the seat, 40 in glove box, 1911 under the seat, 12 gauge in toolbox, boxes of various calibers and other knick-knaks throughout the cab. Hell, I don't even know whats floating around in there. After a few minutes of shooting the breeze and running my permits, it was "I'ma let you off with a warning on the seatbelt and have a nice day".

Now had I been awhole Dawgma, things could have easy went the other way. I just don't see it. Those guys are out there doing their best to protect my safety and yours. Warrant to search yer truck? What you totin' in there?

I actually agree with Mr. G. Folks need to be more aware of what's okay and what's not, and LEO's need to respect it. I'm just such a nice guy it's hard for me to be a jerk.
