Down South Gratton wrote:Hello so this season coming up is going to be truly my rookie year at waterfowl hunting. So I'm looking for any good pointers/tips... Anything from when to call how often to call how to set my decoys up what decoys to put out how many decoys to put out... What kind of ducks like to hangout with each other... Any help would be a great help. I've hunted with friends but they did all the calling and set the decoys out and what not I was just there to shot at the ducks and try to help kill some ducks. I'm truly a good guy not looking for people's honey holes and anything like that. I serve in our great military I've been in sense 08. I was introduced to this great hunt by a buddy a couple years ago but he transferred and now I'm on my own.
File this whole deal under the "now you know" and move on. It shouldn't negatively effect you any more than you ALLOW it too! Learn from it and accept that the law is the law and you unfortunately, unknowingly broke it. Yes, it was a mistake. Yes, you are guilty of hunting with a gun that holds more than 2 shells in the plugged magazine. No, the length of the shells you have on hand is not relevant to the ticket if you think about it and go by whats written in black and white. If I had cocaine but absolutely no intentions of snorting it on my boat when you pulled up, would you let me go with a warning? Extreme example, I know, but both against the law!
You are in the CG, so you do Interdiction right? Whats the first thing folks doing something wrong or are in possession of something illegal on the water do? They throw it overboard! Now with that in mind and leaving behind the "i'm a good guy" mentality, what is to keep that officer from thinking you didn't chunk a box of 2 3/4" shells overboard right before he pulled up? They wouldn't exactly be floating around!
There is always officer discretion but who knows, he could of been burned by giving someone a break on it before.
Everyone makes mistakes, got to learn from it and move on!
