Re: Mirando (state's wr coach) just resigned
Well, I did not make that post until AFTER I read a report from WTVA news that cited MSU sources and made the link to the "resignation". I thought I was behind the curve after cautioning others for restraint. Now, as you probably did, I read in the CL that MSU has not officially linked the investigation to the "resignation ". So, while
I would be surprised that these two events turn out to be unrelated, who really knows. And since I don't really care about MSU, and was only expressing concern about the apparent attempt to throw a straw woman under the bus to divert attention to the real problem, I don't plan comment further about this comical "who's on first" routine. I'll just pop my popcorn and sit back and watch for the 4th version of events to unfold.

yea he was at Minnesota as a head coach, but we don't need him to be a jam up good coach. Was recruiting guru for Mack Brown at UNC and UT. Signed Vince Young out of Houston away from the Canes. Solid ties in Texas throughout the Midwest.

Hope MSU welcomed Brewster properly, with a tall mug of German beer, kielbasa sausage with sour kraut, lutefisk, and a good polka band. He's in for a bit of culture shock.
With regard to recruiting, I'd like to see rivals and scout start ranking the bagmen behind the scenes, where most of the real recrutin' is going on.

Mississippi State has disassociated itself from a booster who made impermissible contact with a prospective student-athlete, according to a letter from Michael Glazier, who is serving as the school's outside counsel during an NCAA investigation into the recruiting tactics of former football assistant coach Angelo Mirando.
The letter, obtained by the Journal via a Freedom of Information Act request, is dated July 13 and is addressed to the booster in question, whose identity is blacked out. According to the letter, the booster is a member of the Bulldog Club, MSU's fundraising arm for athletics.
From the letter: "The (NCAA) investigation has revealed that as a representative of Mississippi State's athletic interests (Bulldog Club member), you engaged in impermissible contact with the prospective student-athlete and that other violations of NCAA rules also may have occurred."
It goes on to say that MSU "will not associate with individuals who do not share the University's commitment" to adhere to NCAA rules and regulations. A list of what the booster is not allowed to do followed:
• Participate in any organization recognized by by the University as a supporter of the University's athletic programs;
• Assist the University in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes;
• Make a financial or gift in kind contribution for the support of the University's athletics programs;
• Receive any privilege associated with Mississippi State athletics that is not available to the general public.
MSU said last week that it has been working with the NCAA for several months on what the school called a "potential recruiting irregularlity," and ESPN has reported that it involves Mirando. There have also been reports that MSU freshman defensive back Will Redmond is being looked at by the NCAA. MSU also said last week that the NCAA's "examination" was nearing its end.
The booster's season tickets and a donation were both refunded by MSU, according to the correspondence. The letter says the booster, as of July 13, had not responded to requests to be interviewed by the NCAA.

I am just happy Mississippi State is even uttered through folks' mouths enough for the NCAA to even really give a chit what we do.

Boosters play a role in providing student-athletes with a positive experience through their enthusiastic efforts. They can support teams and athletics departments through donations of time and financial resources which help student-athletes succeed on and off the playing field.Hybrid Biscuit wrote:

Boosters, referred to by the NCAA as “representatives of the institution’s athletic interests,” include anyone who has:
• Provided a donation in order to obtain season tickets for any sport at the university.
• Participated in or has been a member of an organization promoting the university’s athletics programs.
• Arranged for or provided employment for enrolled student-athletes.
• Assisted or has been requested by university staff to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
• Assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student athletes or their families.
• Been involved otherwise in promoting university athletics.
Once an individual is identified as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests,” the person retains that identity forever.
Only institutional staff members are permitted to recruit prospective student-athletes. Generally, NCAA rules prohibit anyone else from contacting (calling, writing or in-person contact) prospects or the prospect’s relatives or guardian for recruiting purposes.
Students are still considered prospects even if they have signed a National Letter of Intent or any other financial aid agreement with a university.
Boosters are not precluded from continuing established friendships with families who have prospective student-athletes. However, boosters may not encourage a prospect’s participation in university athletics or provide benefits to prospects that were not previously provided.
If a violation occurs, it may jeopardize a student-athlete’s eligibility for intercollegiate competition, jeopardize a school’s membership status with the NCAA or cause a booster to lose access to all booster benefits.
A boosters job is NOT to provide an athlete with a Mustang (even if it is USED).
