Valvular deficiency in both valves. Heart is enlarged. Could be due to athleticism. Or we could have very early stages of dilated cardiomyopathy.

ECG was normal. neurological exam showed no deficiency. blood pressure & other vitals all normal.

They want to do 24 hour observation with Holter monitor next week & another ultrasound next month to see if there is noticeable progression of disease. If progression in a month then that's really really bad news.

No real answer on how much training is ok other than watch her closely. My idea of normal activity & their idea was clearly different.

Please keep praying that this is due to athletic lifestyle not the other.

We got EMD out for a couple good singles. She did great on those. But not until after she had a good roll in a cow patty. I think she didn't want to smell like the vet school anymore.

EMD walked about 1.5 miles on neighborhood skrrrlll patrol early this AM without getting out of breath, so that was a blessing. Certainly better than a few days ago. Hopefully, the vets can figure this out and we can get some news other than "hurry up and wait." She looks like a black and white quilt with all the shaving they did for the tests.

Our family has gotten bigger since we got back into the dog game - we'd do the same for other family members.

I'm waiting to hear from MSU if they want us up there tomorrow for the 24-hour Holter monitoring session.

EMD has been on morning & evening squirrel patrol in the neighborhood, 1 to 1.5 miles each patrol. She hasn't been any more tired than we'd normally expect. We did 1.5 miles this morning in about 20 minutes, and she could obviously have done more, but I needed to get back to the house to start getting ready for work.

My goal is to maintain her fitness level at least somewhat without putting her under strain. The mild temperatures have definitely helped.

Something very encouraging to me is that she actually came to me last night wanting to do something. I was feeling lazy & was going to skip out on the evening patrol, but she wanted to go! That's a little thing, but it tells me she's feeling better and has more energy than she seems to have had for a couple weeks.

Left EMD overnight with MSU for the 24-hour Holter monitoring. My understanding they were keeping her in ICU for the duration just because that was where there would be staff who could keep an eye on her and make sure the monitor was staying in place properly.

Most likely a week's wait on those results, and they may or may not tell us anything towards an overall diagnosis.

It may take a couple months to actually know what's going on and that frankly makes me nuts.

Yes - EMD was feeling well-enough to gnab one of our pond ducks........and that's a positive thing under the circumstances........Oh, and the duck is OK. They've both become quite adept at vertical take-off and distance flying, now......something they've needed to do to avoid the 'red rocket'. Good girl Ellie Mae!!
