Highway 35 between Batesville and Charleston but still within reach of the South Panola School District. I'm pretty fond of Batesville myself. It reminds me of what Yazoo City used to be...

There is no question on where to live. Tchula, MS wins... You can get a house cheap and be within walking distance of the beer store and the fish/rib truck. It would be like living at a bar.

Although you might feel like salt in a pepper shaker..

TUPELO is the place to raise a family and use as a hub for traveling. I can live anywhere in the world with my job as long as an airport is near by and it makes traveling much easier with a local small airport. I have lived in all over in great areas in the US and Mississippi. I am in the golf business and have lived in New Zealand, Costa Rica, Brazil, Turkey and now working in Kazakhstan just to mention a few. We do not know how good we have it in MS until you live abroad. But I call Tupelo home originally from a south delta town. Give Tupelo or Saltillo a good look if you are looking for a safe community to raise your family. But I plan on retiring in New Zealand after taking care of my parents. Gotta keep family first you know. There is no place on earth that I have traveled that can compare to New Zealand. Duck hunting there is awesome and hunting the RED STAG.
