I am completely dumbfounded at the number of people who have come out in favor of beating the chit out of people. I am not saying anybody who attempts to run over an officer, shoot at an officer, or otherwise injures an officer shouldn't be punished. It is the courts job to decide punishment not the cops.

When a LEO takes his oath does the oath say he is to select which laws he wants to obey and enforce. Does it say that if the officer thinks his fellow officer was in danger then "all bets are off" and the officer can take the law into his own hands. Deciding which laws to follow and which to ignore.

Wow, the wall of blue is out in full force. Hope my identity isn't discovered because it is apparent to me by this thread that I would be getting visits by the man to give me some reeducation. I'm a threat to officers, beat the chit out of me. If the attitude that has been presented on this thread is the prevailing attitude of police in general, then perhaps there is merit to the belief that police forces are generally corrupt.

If this is to hard for an officer to understand then he has no business being on the streets. Do your damn job, arrest the guy, and let the courts deal with it. Anything else and you have become the criminal and should be in court yourself. If you can't control yourself, no matter the situation, then you need to go to the house.

man breaks into your house, robs you and attempts to kill you as he runs out the back door... The guy trips and hits his head on the concrete steps as your running after him.... are you saying that your not gonna pounce him while he's down? im damn sure not gonna poke him with a stick to see if he moves and give him a chance to get up... thats whats the damn problem.

+1
seymore you keep going back to the fact that the cops are not supposed to be able to prove innocent or guilty but what your not seeing is they saw this man try to run over there "brother" so to speak and like i said in an earlier post this co-workers are not like your typical co-workers they look out for each others lives day in and day out. The biggest problem with this case is why is there a lawyer going after cops who did what they had to do to contain the situation. revoke his abiltiy to practice law.

So because they are cops they don't have to follow the law if they think one of their own is threatened? What you are advocating is mob and gang mentality which at its very core is a breakdown of social order by the very people who have sworn to maintain that order. Makes perfect sense to me.

Since when is arresting a man, who just swerved to kill, a mob? I don't understand. I don't believe we watched the same video. This man CLEARLY, not maybe sorta, not almost, not accidentally, but CLEARLY swerved to kill.this would make him an armed and dangerous. He then proceeds to flip his own vehicle and gets tossed out. I hear stories of people who are tossed out and walk away unharmed. That being said, I will take ever opportunity possible, no matter what the cause, to ensure this guy doesn't put anyone else in harms way.

They oughta tar and feather the son of a bitch.

If it were simply an arrest, then gang and mob rule wouldn't apply. However, the rational that is being presented for beating the guy is that, "he attempted to hurt one of my brothers and therefore I'm going to conveniently forget about the law I am sworn to uphold and beat him."

That is when it becomes nothing more than a gang and/or mob.

Evidently, the officers have been fired and an investigation begun into why it took a year for the video to be reported. Looks as though the fellow officers of the 5 were covering it up after the fact.

Again, I'm not defending the guy and think he should rot in jail. I'm just saying the cops should have followed the law and they didn't. Tough chit for them.

I'm no cop but I'd think that in that profession, keeping a level head in stressful situations would be a job requirement. These guys didn't do that and it amazes me that they do stuff like this knowing that there's a camera on every dash of every car.

You guys are right. It is definitely OK for emotionally overwhelmed LEOs to beat up people whenever they need. Their job is stressful, so we should not blame them for anything they do. In fact, we should open up the county jails for inmate-beating-hour, so that frustrated cops can burn some steam.

This is the problem with the world today no one is afraid of cops anymore because as a citizen you can try to kill one and then get them fired and start a lawsuit against them when they hit you.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Its as true today as it was when I was 4 and my daddy taught it to me.

Anyway you look at it, after the intial officer got a lick and they guy didn't even flich, theres no excuse for another one. Personally, i wish the guy wudda got out wielding a gun, and they could have on camera smoked him. But he didn't. And they knew they where wrong, or the video would have been used that very day. travis

It's a tough job being a cop, since the pay is so great.

Well the way I see it is if you run from the cops you are guilty, it was a shame to waste a good ass kicking, because he didn't remember it.

Seymore, you don't have to fear the police just respect the law. We ask them to keep us safe and then tie their hands, It is a joke. All cops are not bad, small percent maybe up to no good.

I would like to see the rap sheet on that SOB that ran and how many times he has beaten the system.

It is a tough world and it is going to get worst!

The way I see it is that as soon as this guy tried to run over the police its just as good as him pulling out a gun/weapon. He use the car as a weapon. With that being said they should have filled the vehicle with holes. Would they have been in the right then? Of course, Now I see both sides here. Just to keep it from getting to the other side of the "police should have not beat cause he was unconsicous" if they would have made some pink mist of him inside that car it would have not have gotten this far. I have a very small grey area for this topic. Most everyone on here knows where I stand on this topic!!! So I'm gonna leave it with that.......
