Re: Am I wrong?
She should want to work. The mentality of today's youth is to take whatever they can on the free ride until they HAVE to do for themselves. I'd show her the door if she can follow the rules living under your roof. I wouldn't let her raid my refrigerator, soak up my A/C and watch my TV until she got a job.

Best thing you can do now is let it go. If the wife is not going to back you then you don't have a leg to stand on. The daughter views you as an outsider and not someone who is an authority figure to her. The wife was the key and if she is gonna bail on you, then you are fighting a loosing battle.
Best thing you could do is make sure somehow, and I don't even know how you'd do this, your money is not going to fund her sitting around. If your check goes into a joint account with your wife then in her eyes is sort of becomes community property and you are going to have a hard time stopping it.
You might try backing up and talking with your wife somewhere private. Maybe go to dinner and a movie away from ground zero and see if she will support you. It's real delicate how you ask for her support as well and that is exactly what it is, you are asking for her help and can't demand it.
Thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope things will work out. I'm right there with as my oldest daughter turned 18 this week.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. Benjamin Franklin.

Heck no your not wrong for telling her to get a job. I got my first job when I was 13 running a weedeater on a golf course 5 days a week and every other weekend. Thats been 12yrs ago and Im still working golf courses. It was the early start and a good boss who inspired me to work hard and long that instilled in me the love of working with turfgrass. Now thanks to my parrents and the 3 boss's I have had in these 12yrs, I will be graduating in December with my degree in Turf mang. I can say if I ever find the right one and have kids they will start working when they enter jr/high school. Im a firm believer in it keeps you out of trouble, instills a work ethic and teaches you how to manage $$$$$.
Life is to short to only fish on weekends
