I was born in Greenwood - moved away when I was 2 ('56). My Grandparents are buried in the cemetery there - that was the second place I went when I started working in Itta Bena in April. The first place I went was their house on South Blvd. A lot of memories surfaced as I drove around the old neighborhood. The big oak tree in the front yard is gone, but the porch swing my grand Dad hung, is still swinging - just another family using it, now. The red-topped stacks at the power plant was a vivid reminder of days spent on the merry-go-round next to the railroad track behind Davis Elementary..........sad, the train tracks are gone on that route, now. I remember going to Greenwood for Christmas-----strange, I had completely forgotten they used to decorate the Fulton Ave bridge with lights, until I drove through town the other night and saw the city crew putting the lights up. That brought-back some childhood images buried for the last 50 years - amazing, I feel like I've come home.

But I'm not a local .......and I don't act like I'm entitled to the same consideration that locals only should be accorded. I'm an outsider, even though folks welcome me back. I've made some friends and I continue to get to know them better and they, me. I know some duck hunters and respect their territory. If they have an opening and invite me on a hunt, I'll go. Otherwise, I'm not going to add to their frustration of another truck at the ramp. In fact, the other day a guy took the time to take me over to another friend's house to see a boat. He and his friend got to talking about duck hunting and were careful about how much information they were possibly divulging in the midst of this unknown duck hunter. I assured both of them I had no intention of hunting public land in the area unless I went as someone's guest.

I know how I feel when I see someone new at a ramp near my home. Gotta respect that when you go into somebody else's woods. 'Lotta folks don't 'get' that.

So, I'm only a Deltonian, if the locals consider me one. Outside o that, I'll just enjoy the pretty Christmas lights on the way to Grandma's house. By the way, I had their headstones cleaned the first week I was in town......hadn't been in that cemetary since I was 5........walked right to the spot. Musta been the big oak trees right next to them, that led me there............maybe it was something deeper.

Don't hunt in MS, but I do hunt public ground from time to time here. It's your ground when you "get" the deed to it. Other than that if I know there are ducks there and I get there before someone else it's as much mine as yours, that's why it's called public ground.

If you hunt public ground and think it's "your" spot I gotta call foul.

Bay Rat from the Coast, I love the Delta though...wish I could afford two homes, one in the South Delta and one where Im at.... I feel like someone hit it on the head earlier, I dont like stupid people...believe me we share our Coastal fishing with all walks of life down here, and I am glad to help the outsiders, but the stupid ones can kiss my booty...

I then guess would be considered an Out of Delta'er but I'm born and raised Mississippian! Been all over the world and hope to die right here in MS.
I love to hunt and fish "where their at" and that's why I spend a lot of time in "your" Delta during December and January.
Now as far as the Redfish go, you Louisiana gentlemen have a bigger gripe with me. Not only do I have a camp in Grand Isle and Houma, I also married one of your women! Dang, that may be why ya'll like me so much! I thought it was for my whiskey!

Not from the delta either, but I did see O Brother, Where Art Thou once, does that count for anything??

Never hunted the delta,my Mothers family were from the Hattiesburg/Laurel area that is about as close as I can get!Dads family was from the La. side of The River, due west of Natchez.In Texas we get lots of OOS's but mainly to deer hunt,and most folks pay a ton to do that !

Born and raised in Jackson and Madison. Hunted the delta for YEARS, Married a Delta girl and she drug my arss up here. I actually like it. The people who live here are dying to get out, I'm trying to stay!!! I'm now a delta man and will be here for ever.

I agree with Micah, I hate it for you guys that don't have private land to hunt. Hunting public ANYWHERE is a Biotch. It's nice to have that choice.
