Very sad to hear. I will include his family in my prayers.
We had recently developed a friendship through this board and discovered a LOT of common interests and common opinions about certain matters.
I know he really loved Ole Miss tennis, and served as a line judge/ head referee/official at UM tennis matches, including this spring, and was planning for the upcoming tennis regionals on campus. And we each shared a love of all UM sports, although his glory day memories went back a lot further than mine.
I will miss his input here. I'm sorry I did not get the opportunity to meet him in person. I invited him to the Wooly Swamp shindig, but he could not make it.
RIP Mike aka "Sportsman450".

Hey Pal,
I'll be thinking about you this upcoming season. I'll never forget your Sunday calls wondering how the hunt went and if I had any spare ducks I could share. Sure I do Sporty, take all you want.
We Will miss you and your tales of way back when.

A few weeks ago Sporty had just had a colonoscomy and wasn't doing well. I think he said that his preliminary diagnosis was Ulcerated Colonitus. It was a Saturday and he had no phone. All he had was his internet connection. He was signed on to MsDucks waiting for someone familiar to sign on. As soon as my name showed that I had signed on, I noticed a post Bank dude you have pms. It could have been anybody that he new. He was in trouble. He was throwing up, nauseated, and was still having diareaha three days after the procedure. Sporty asked that I call G I and Associates to try to get the doctor on duty to email him. I called but there was no email access for the person on duty. We went back and forth, me talking to an emergency weekend nurse, and relaying the information through pms back to Sporty trying to solve his problem since he did not have a phone nor could he drive. I then took him some stuff for his symptons. I never heard from him again nor have I seen any posts from him since.
Apparently during his day he was an excellent sportsman as well as an athlete. Too bad he let himself in the physical shape he got in. I'll miss Old Sporty and his pestering of Benny.

Sorry to hear it, spoke with Mike a few times via pm. In my recent quest on getting in shape, he asked me what all I did. He wanted to get back in shape bad. We actually talked about kidney stones a few times here recently. He told me he was suffering from them...and asked for any ANY advice I could give to ease the pain.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I went by and saw his mom today. She was doing as well as can be expected. I asked her if there was anything I could do and she said "bring him back." I told her I wished I could. As several others have said, Mike has been in pretty poor health the last few years.
I met him on the DU committee about 12 years ago. We hit it off and were hunting buddies for 5 or 6 years on public land. I've known him to be at the "parking lot" at 10pm the night before a hunt. He was a good caller as well as a good shot. He hasn't been able to duck hunt in at least 4 years bc of his health. He took up bow hunting and became very good with a bow, even competing and winning some contests. He was an avid and good bass fisherman. He loved fishing especially with his buddy Lee at New Castle. I can remember taking him with me several times and he always seemed to catch more than I did
Mike was active in the tennis community as an umpire and especially like calling Ole Miss matches.
He will be missed by many, especially his mother. If anyone has any photo's of him please email me. I took his mom one today and she said she wished she had some more pics of him.
Visitation, Thursday.... 10am, funeral 11am at St. Andrews in downtown Jackson.
