Birds were a little thin this past weekend...only 164 total fewer birds headed to the tundra! More decoys seen than actual geese, but still mostly adult snows - the upcoming weekend may be better.

Good ending to a great season, had some guests from OH down for some goose shooting. There were precious few birds in the area, but we made the best of it, hunting until lunch and then putting the birds to bed at twilight so we'd know where to strat the next morning.

Unbelievably, the waterfowler & co. picked up yet another ross' x blue goose hybrid! Many may remember that the Smithsonian was posting wanted adds all over the internet a few months ago - it's the only bird they've yet added to their collection. One of the other unique birds was a juvenile greater, but didn't manage to get a picture...

We stopped shortly after noon, sipped a few cold ones and feasted like kings. Place down the road sold crawfish so I told the lady to tune them up good for my northern brothers. Worked like a charm: they bought more cold beer - lots of it! I've never in all more born days see folks pack away fried fish like them boys did! We had catfish, crappie, speckled trout and redfish, them boys had a taste for southern-fried!
Image

Invasion of the carpetbaggers! One of teh yankee guns retired Sunday, that Arkansas mud was just too much!
Image

Finished strong Sunday. Weekends prior, been shooting about 7% ross' geese, about 5% juvenile snows. This weekend's take: 97 snows, 96 Ross' and 95 blues! Kinda interesting isn't it?

Last retrieve of a memorable season.
