DanP,
Our sizes are similar. I have tried to carry a 4" 1911 several different ways, and one whole side of my body was square. Just cant get it figured out.

If you wear an outer garment (vest jacket) heck you can conceal a sawed of shotgun. That is no problem. The problem lies in khakis and a dress shirt or polo shirt. I walked into a gun shop the other day and a guy had some gun in a cross breed holster or something similar. The shirt was all pulled out on the side, the clips were obvious, etc. He might as well been wearing one of those "shoot me first" vest. That is NOT concealed.

This is pretty much how I dress every day in summer. Winter I have a vest. That's a full size 1911 at 4 o'clock IWB with C clips and extra mag in left cargo pocket. Glock 27 plus 2 mags in shoulder rig. 17 rounds .45 or 28 rounds .40

Tucked with IWB clips are always visible, C clips are just less visible. Question is does it really matter in your situation? If it does you could easily carry that 4" 1911 in shoulder rig.

Let me clarify, I'm carrying all of that in first pic just for an example but I carry one or other not both!

One thing I've noticed is most people do not notice the clips on your belt from the iwb holster. Several of my friends never noticed them until they too began to carry. I used to be self conscious of the clips but now it hardly crosses my mind.

Glad you posted the pic Dan. Since we discussed this, I have been carrying the 4" kimber in a desantis tuckable. It has the same type clip your holster has. I am going to look for something a little more comfortable than the desantis. Nobody has noticed the bottom of the clip or if they have they have not said anything. Still carrying the Kahr in the front pocket too :D

no M&P compacts at sportsman's whse in Southaven Saturday. I want something with more capacity than the shield. I can carry a kahr in my pocket or a 1911 and tote as many rounds as the shield.

Thinking about a double stack 9 or 40 in 1911 style as well. With some effort I have managed to make the 1911 work.

Handguns are getting hard to get right now.. Starting to sell out again.. I like the M&P Compact 9.. I have one in flat dark earth.. I carried it a good bit until I found an FNS9c that had night sights at a price too good to pass up.
