Williams confessed to robbing a student who was punched in the head and face and kicked in the ribs and back. He said Pettway and Hayes watched him commit another robbery from a nearby vehicle about an hour later.
This was known by the law enforcement authorities and UA from almost day one. The information about the "confession" was in the very first reports re the matter.

So, what took so long with respect to Williams? This was a no-brainer from the word "GO". What exactly was there for UA to consider and ponder about? Or "review"? Even Columbo knew the investigation was over once there was a confession. And Perry Mason knew that the case was over once he elicited a confession from the witness stand.

Here is a more complete report issued today:
4 arrested Bama players no longer enrolled at UA

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -
All four of the University of Alabama football players facing robbery-related charges are no longer enrolled in the school, according to a statement from UA.

University spokeswoman Deborah Lane issued this statement concerning UA students Tyler Hayes, Dennis Pettway, Eddie Williams and Brent Calloway:

"UA's judicial review has been completed. The four students involved in the robberies on campus are no longer enrolled in UA."

Coach Nick Saban said Wednesday that all four players are "no longer associated with the football program" and their "actions do not reflect the spirit and character we want our organization to reflect," the AP reports.

All four of the former football players were arrested by campus police earlier this month in connection to two robberies. They were suspended from the team and school indefinitely until the results of the judicial review came came in.

Hayes, Pettway and Williams were charged with two counts of second degree robbery each. Williams and Calloway were charged with fraudulent use of a debit card. Court documents show that Williams admitted to beating up two UA students, taking a book bag and debit cards. Hayes also admitted to the crimes.

Williams left Tuscaloosa nearly two weeks ago after school officials banned him, Pettway and Hayes from campus. Calloway was not originally banned from campus, but is now also unenrolled from the university.

It is interesting to note that they are no longer enrolled, or "unenrolled". They were enrolled to start the semester, but now they are "unenrolled". Really? Is that even a word? You are either enrolled, or not enrolled. How can you be "unenrolled"? Why not just say they were expelled? Or is that too harsh?

And per Saban, the players are, as of today, "no longer associated with the football program". I would hope so, since they are, as of today, "unenrolled". Wouldn't it be more accurate to simply say they were dismissed from the football team? Or is that too harsh?

The political correctness surrounding this matter is a hoot.

The hit to a "defender" in the SEC Championship game was not Politically Correct, nor was the WWF takedown against Mizzou last year. Un-enroll all of them sumbitches I say. We need a Lawyer and a PR person. Po Monk, could you please apply? I am sure they pay quite well.

I would be willing to bet that some SEC team will take a hard look at Williams. If O or Nutt were still around, it would be a safe bet that Williams would be on an offical visit to Oxford this weekend. :D

Thankfully, Ole Miss has hired someone of a little higher character.

For what? A future janitor or grounds keeper? Not gonna happen at any SEC school. No SEC school's administration would admit such a "student", even if a football coach were deranged enough to be interested.

As I've said before, this is not your typical, forgivable, offense which might be subject to rehabilitation. Here, Williams planned, stalked, attacked, beat unconscious, and robbed innocent students (all of which were white) purportedly for cash to buy snacks and/or for an ipad, but more likely for the pure entertainment value (think hunger games). This was pure gangbanger stuff from the ghetto. This guy's immediate future is most likely prison, and then back to the ghetto from whence he came. I don't see him getting out of this type of crime without some jail time. This should be an aggravated assault and battery charge, since it was coupled with a robbery --- a felony.

Didn't Hornsby that committed to Ole Miss after getting kicked out of UF do something similar? Cam Newton was recruited quite heavily after a non-violent theft while at UF (as well as cheating scandals and school shopping by his dad). Zach Mettenberger apparently sexually assaulted a co-ed at UGA and is now at LSU. It is amazing the chances you get at life when you run a 4.3 forty and/or can play football.

Masoli had baggage when he came to Oxford - as does Marshall Henderson. Someone fill me in on all the others.

Alabama will be okay with all of this. On to Spring Training on March 16, the NFL draft in April , success at the academic level (second in the SEC behind Vanderbilt), and perhaps yet another run at a National Title. Any questions?

Hornsby left Florida re some type of credit card scam involving several football players. He later was recruited by Nutt but got into a fight (I believe in Starkville) and was charged with assault. He was never admitted to UM as a student.

Masoli had been in trouble at Oregon for smoking weed and was with some guys at a frat party who stole a laptop computer out of a frat house.

None of these instances involved a violent act committed against Ole Miss students on the Ole Miss campus. I fail to see the correlation with the Williams matter.

Exactly what part of my criticism of UA in the handling of this matter do any of you disagree with? Was it ok not to suspend them from school until 3 days after the incident, when Williams had confesssed to police from the outset?

I've never said that Ole Miss ( or any other school) doesn't have student athletes that get into trouble. That was clearly not my point, and those pretending that it was are engaging in a straw man debate. What I did say was that the subject crimes were different than the typical trouble that student athletes get into from time to time. Can anyone point to some other incident like the Williams assaults that have occurred on any other SEC campus?

I cannot think of any. Your point is well taken. The only similar event I can think of (which should have been national news) was the "knock out" game incident at Pitt. To that point, I would not be surprised in the least if this incident at Bama was initially a form of the knock out game that later turned into theft.

It will be interesting to see how Saban handles this event and his team. Pretty much all sports dynasties (which Bama clearly is at this point) come to an end as a result of either complacency or lack of discipline (or a combination of the two). Saban specializes in not being complacent and in discipline, so one would think this will not be a problem for Bama...but we shall see.

One of the Fab 4 seems to have been entertained by someone in Mississippi. Always an option it seems for an athlete.
